If you could play bass that well you wouldnt be on here talking shit.

Now go practice some more in hopes of one day being good enough to back up your claims.

Cause I play an instrument I can't be posting on a message board? You have no logic.

Yeah well talent ≠ money in the mainstream music business. If you had a brain cell in your head you'd have realized that slipknot was more about their look then their music because really, their music is nothing that hadn't been done before a million times before.

If talent did = money than this guy would clearly have more money then slipknot.

God, your arguments and train of thought is so shallow it's pathetic. You have no idea how the music business works. You actually believe if I was a better player than that bassist, I'd be more famous? Sad. Explain that to the thousands of incredibly skilled musicians on youtube and such that their lives are going nowhere because the business is so messed up.

Pointless. If you don't have good taste then how could you be a good judge?

And I don't play bass but I can play cacophony's concerto fairly cleanly at at a decent speed. Believe it or not, I couldn't give less of a shit.

A maintenance man who called 911 from the hotel where Slipknot bassist Paul Gray was found dead says he found a syringe and pills in the room.

The 38-year-old Gray was found dead Monday at TownePlace Suites in the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale. The 911 call at 10:46 a.m. was made by Mike Kellow, who says on the recorded call that he checked on Gray after his mother called because she couldn't reach him.

Kellow found Gray's body in a corner near a wall. He says there was a hypodermic needle next to the bed and "all kinds of pills everywhere."

An autospy was inconclusive about the cause of death, but police said there was no evidence of foul play or trauma. Police are waiting the results of toxicology tests.

I'm sure he was a good guy, but Slipknot is really just a culture thriving bag of crap. There is a very obvious explanation as to why Slipknot has won so many awards for their "music", and no, not because they truly have musically inclined talent, but because they were a good image, a good foundation for crooked music industries to rip money out of mainstream kids hands. They may have not been aware of it, but they remain a victim to culture(while endorsing it) and they release very stale music.  C'mon, MASKS?! It's fucking brilliant marketing! There is nothing METAL or BRUTAL about masks! It's funny, because every friend I have that listens to Slipknot, happens to have at least 2 slipknot shirts. In school(when I was in highschool) there were slipknot shirts EVERYWHERE. My god, what happened to digging deep into musical grooves, exquisite rudiments, originality! Obviously it is much more difficult to be original now, but there is just such a lack of taste and effort in 95% of all music in this generation. If I see that the majority of the fan base is a bunch of high school kids, then obviously something is going on.

With all my speculation at hand, I hope this adds a creative spark to the Slipknot crew and change direction. This should be an invite to shed the previous body, and display a more brilliant one. I will remain optimistic

This is one of the few modern metal acts that remains to be one of the must underrated, most influential, most technical bands today. Also quite possibly the only metal I can listen to while under the spell of psychedelics :mushroom2:

slipknot had a much less "influenced" songs that weren't steaming piles of crap. regardless of complexity, before they got anywhere... they did something originally. meshuggah is in realms beyond slipknot, ao you'd be right to post that to compare. but... it's not really the same music. one is insane in complexity and conceptuality... whiel the other (slipknot) is merely a concept at best.

and one that, even though immature, had a lashing sound that no one can quite duplicate. but there are lots of sounds like that... and better ones too, obviously.

i don't listen to korn anymoer but i'll admit... all their albums are shit except their first. listen to it... for nu-metal (crap? i don't know, listen to the first two today is the day albums and if you can call that nu-metal then it can't be all bad) for the type of simple music it is designed to be... the first album is cool. i don't listen to it anymore but it's still cool.

drums are sick in that album... anyway, my point is... everyone already knows what slipknot is. except how they sucked balls up to a pretty big point... at one time they actually could have been more conceptually original then most every other nu-metal (and i am specifying this) band out there to date otehr then... the obvious classics (faith no more) and the unknowns (bloodlet anyone?)

Slipknot definitely did produce a sound which many bands reached towards and had a certain genuine texture to it. Unfortunately it couldn't progress much further due to the particular sound essentially having no desire to evolve. They fell directly into the hands of mainstream and instantly the boat became near impossible to abandon without the shattering of the bands success at hand. They had quickly established a massive fan base, and stepping out the boundaries of their initial success is a giant leap and a giant gamble.

yep. it's how some ideas go sometimes... some bands have no where to go but down cause they wear their idea thin sooner or later and then can't step into  another "unique: place. only one with tack ons and influence.

oh well... death never made any horrible albums. :awesome:
