dude, take a deep breath and relax. We are not trying to convince you of anything.
we, like yourself, are mearly expressing our opinions. You keep comparing us to evangelicals and zelots but, Its not like we're saying if you dont like the grateful dead your going to hell. You keep saying that we can't stand if other people disagree with our taste in music, and yet your the one who's getting most worked up over other people's prefernces. Show me one post where someone said, "your wrong in your decision no to like GD." No one is seeking "validation of others' approval." Your just pulling shit out of your ass.
I could give two shits about whether or not you like the dead.
i do on the other hand agree with you on, the doors, prodigy, and AP.

the dead rock, sober or on acid. i never even got to see em live and i love em. i was already a big fan before i even heard em tripping. the dead are EXTREMELY talented musicians. probably phil lesh and garcia being the most talented. garcia is one of the top 10 all time guitarists and id say lesh is one of the top bass players of all time. they were the first group in rock history to incoporate the free form jazz jamming style of coltrane (and others) into rock n roll. anyone who doesnt see at least that musically the dead had an amazing ability doesnt know music. for instance im not a huge rap fan but i can tell the difference between good and bad rap. who is talented and who isnt.
also pretyy much every muscic publication who makes a list of the top 10, 50 ,100, 20 bands of all time includes the dead. music people agree

Fuck the Grateful Dead, they're not even a real band.

agree 100%
see, this is the kind of musical pissing contest I was hoping to avoid...
its all just a matter of personal preference.
the main reason I don't like deadheads is because they tend to be all in your face about it. Like they are evangelists for Jerry Garcia or something.... I mean, I've never spent a long period of time trying to convince someone to like a band... If someone doesn't like what I listen to then thats fine... We all have our own opinions, and I think thats great. I mean, its better than being a hivemind like the borg or something...
hippies tend to have way too many opinions in common if you ask me. It seems like they are all so afraid to go against their crowd. Maybe I'm wrong, but thats the way it seems to me. Hippies are the borg, and they want to assimilate everything into one big gay-ass love in. Not me, I need my space, nigga. You can kill your egos all you want, I'm just fine with mine.
It doesnt seem like this is the right forum for you... lol

It gets my goat when dumb kids idolize musicians as if they were God and then ignore the people who have REALLY positively effected the course of human events... people like scientists and leaders and pioneers. I idolize the people that invented all the cool shit that makes life enjoyable a lot more than some idiot singing his opinion while plunking out a tune on a guitar... I mean entertainers are a dime a dozen, but real heroes only come around once in awhile...
I guess it just pisses me off when people talk about jerry garcia like he invented the printing press or something... It just goes to show how shallow people can be... they put the most pointless shit on a pedastal and ignore what is really important... all while claiming to 'keep it real'
Actually, music can change your life. If it's not a big part of your life, then sorry. I guess you're into something else. But my life revolves around it. One who says no to music says no to life. As for scientists, leaders, and pioneers, if I had to kill a hundred scientists, or a thousand George Bushes, or a million Hernando Cortezes to save my record collection, I would do it.

I listen to GD and I don't like them.
It's weird.
I find the music "sloppy", as someone mentioned earlier, yet I appreciate jazz and improvisation so I can dig it.
I find the lyrics cheezy and shallow, but it's nice poppy "everything is ok" feel good stuff for me.
I agree with DoctorJ on the deadhead thing. On this board especially, there are some rabid fans who will attack your person for not liking "the best band there could ever be".

The Dead wrote a lot of good songs - they also wrote a lot of dreck.
Some live stuff is phenomenal - some sounds embarassingly out of tune and awful.
American Beauty, Blues for Allah and Europe 72 are three of the best albums I own.
I also think that after Allah they severely dropped in quality.
The Dead are whatever you want them to be. As with anything.
I can't really see any point to this thread at all, it'd be like someone posting saying "I can't stand Chocolate Chip ice cream".
It's all a question of personal taste - why not rave about a band you really like?
