Blenders - recommendations?

So it appears that my roommate will be taking his blender with him on his summer trip so I'm just going to get one.  Problem is that I know NOTHING about blenders.  Can anyone give a few recommendations on products/brands/what kinds of qualities I should be looking for?  I will primarily be using it for tasty fruit drinks but might expand into other areas.

Preferably, I want to spend less than $60 although I will spend more if need be.

Hmm.. typically I don't like buying food preparation items second hand but I'll give it a whirl.  Getting it super cheap sure would be nice.
