Will switching my electric heater circuit off save me money?

Will switching my electric heater circuit off save me money on my electric bill even though I do not turn on the heatet?

I am looking for ways to get my electric bill down.  I live alone in a one bedroom apartment that is about 535 sq ft and my last bill was a little over $60.

I use my stovetop and oven almost everyday, take 20-30 minutes showers daily, charge a handheld vacuum cleaner regularly, have been leaving my PS3 on(the red light on) and the cable box is off but still running(causing heat).

I do unplug the toaster.

I obviously know things that I am going to change(showers, start turning cable box and PS3 off) but does anyone else have any advice?

Also, does $60 seem legit?

Have you changed your lights over the the power saving ones??

You could also turn down your hot water tank

If it's already turned off, breaking the circuit won't get you much. Cut back on the showers (water heaters use a LOT of juice) and turn off the little things - the can really add up. But $60 doesn't sound like too much. That's about what I pay and I live in  a similar sized apartment. Of course, I also have central heat/air and I often run that.

since you live in an apartment, it most likely won't matter what you do, i believe they add up all the electricity used and spit it between all the tendants.

If you have a seperate meter then start recording how much you use each month and see if it matches your bill as they estimate it sometimes.

next your biggest or easiest thing to cut is your heated water, during the summer you can most likely get away with not using any hot water.

your ps3/computer/tv are your main draws however, you could build yourself a wind turbine :shrug:

That would only be in apartment complex type situations and even that is not always the case. If he lives in a house devided into apartments then he will be on his own meter.

Yes, I have my own meter.  I am going to try shuttung off the hot water after I take a shower at night and then turn it on a couple hours before I take a shower.

What else could I do?

You could add some insulation around your hot water tank to make it more efficient?

I think your biggest draw would actually be your stove/oven.  You could prepare more meals in the microwave, or try a pressure cooker:
