You sound out of shape, plain and simple

I can do well over 100 and not be sore, infact Id be ready to do almost 50 more and then after that I'd be ready to do some handstand pushups

Best way to fix this? Work out and eat right and STRETCH

What's your timeline?

it takes time to build strength, and until you have a good solid base of fitness, any challenging physical exercise you do will likely result in some degree of soreness as you develop muscles all of your body...

Just give it some time, and keep at it.

Nope.

You should get used to it.

I'd be quite tired after 50, but if i waited 5 minutes could do 20 more, and then probably do another 20 5 minutes later.

My shoulders/chest would be slightly tight the following day, but not painful.

Thanks everyone. I got one more question.

Is it really bad to work hard the same muscle group day after day?

Because i've been doing 500 a day. might be why its painful.

It isn't really. You just split them up, its an excellent exercise. But Its starting to get to me.

I think I will do something like

Day 1 - pushups
Day 2 - crunches

or something

If you can do 30 pushups in one go, then doing more than 30 is not going to make you stronger as such, just increase your stamina.
lifting the same weight, in this case your bodyweight, over and over again will not stumilate your body to get stronger, as if it's already strong enough to do it a bazillion times, a bazillion and 10 won't make any difference.
if you want to get stronger you need to increase the weight you're moving over time. you could increase the weight by doing pushups with your feet raised, wearing a weight vest, or getting somone to lie on your back. or you could start lifting weights, which is the easiest way to move >bodyweight loads.
I'm repping 300+lbs on bench at the moment, but I doubt I could go much past 30 pushups:sad:, that's the difference between strength and stamina.

Everything i've read about minimalist training indicates there should be 1 push and 1 pull movement.

In this case, chin ups would be the obvious choice.

thanks for the info! no doubt i will look into weighted vests, they sound good.

I'm more interested in stamina and toning than building muscle so I dont even lift at all.

Ok 1 more thing hasn't been mentioned:

Your body needs REST.

You should probably have 2 days off per week (do exercise that targets a different part of the body completely.)
