me agin......joining the armed forces
    #2140529 - 11/27/03 05:42 PM (13 years, 12 days ago)

i have come to the point in my life where i need to decide what i want to do with the rest of my life... i have been having some problems as some of you may have seen. but i think that i am going to join eather the air force or the navy(about 98% shure of it)... my family is compltly behind me on this its just a very big step for me and was wondering if any one out there had some experences with the air force or the navy, or any good info/recomendations on eather of them....i know some people are very strongly opposed to the armed forces(iv read some posts witch have not been to supporativ) i am a very level headed, non violent person, but i think that joining one of these forces would help me turn my life around in the direction that i want it to go. so please i dont need flames for wanting to join just some advice or some info....

P.S i am stoping by the air force and navy office tommrow to see what i need to do

You're less likely to die in a ship, but it's more boring.

If you want the least dangerous job then join the airforce or navy. From what I heard they have the easiest training and they teach you shit that will help you in civilian jobs.

If I could do it over again I would join the coast guard... I was in the army for 7 years.. although looking back I had a good time overall.. the coast guard rocks,, all the benefits, closer to home, less chance of ending up in the desert,, "I hate deserts",,, good luck,,, I personally would go AF,, if the coast guard doesn't sound like your cup of tea..

You have higher chance of gettin shot if you are a marine or in the army. If you join Navy seals then your chances are higher too. If you are infantry in marines or army you have a higher chance of gettin shot.

I'm not gonna give you my anti military rant because I'm sure you heard it all before, but you should try to do something constructive for the human race in the military instead of shooting people or building bombs and whatnot.

I think it would be cool to be a coreman. You get to help sick and wounded people. Be creative. You can still get the disipline you're looking for and not turn into a trigger happy drone.

I considered this, my old man was in the forces from when he was 16 - 38, a fair few years. He did it for the exact same reason. I say go for it, they will sort your life out for you and you can get a great education from being in the forces. Not to mention the great pension as well  My old man will have three pensions by the time he leaves his job atm. He works in saudi arabia makin plenty of dough. Go for it, you can always leave if its not for you. What have u got to lose? The only down side i see really is the way the world is turning out at the moment. Their may be a good chance you'll get called into war with world events happening as they are, so go for a behind the scenes kind of job :P I remember back in college the army came down to show off some gear and try and sign people up, i had a go on trying to spot tanks and such in this mock battlefield they set up, it was pretty good, i managed to spot ALL of the hidden targets. They said come join! I said no, im short sighted lol. Bah ill stop rambling. Whatever you choose mate good luck with it!

+peace+

no it werent a video game, it was a mini landscape about 2 meters long, so when u layed down it looked like a massive battlefield. It was really clever how they did it. Did u go and speak to the military people about your options?

I was in the Navy but I think if I could do it over again I would go AF. The rapor between Officers and enlisted is much tighter in the AF.

Also the best advice I can give is do not tell them anything. They will make it sound as if they know or can find out if you withhold the truth about what you have done in the past. If it is not public record don't tell them. My asvab qualified me for any job in the Navy but my mouth disqualified me for all the realy cool ones.

Good luck, it will be a good experiance.

I just did a stint in the navy, bottom line not worth it.

Join the Peace Corps instead, wish I had...

BTW If you do this post here after your first year in.

P.S. I did as well in the navy as is possible in 4...

Hehe. My dad did 7 years in the navy. I remember him telling me
that when he was done with his first term, he had the option
of signing on for more years, and he did. Then he immediately
said to himself, "Why the fuck did I just do that?"

He said that he got some positive things from the navy(discipline,
love of the sea, traveling, getting experience for some "real-world"
jobs, etc..), but when I was a little kid and I mentioned that I
might want to join he immediately was like, "uh.......uh.......
well whatever you want to do son".

If I wasn't going to school right now I'd join the military tomorrow.

A real challenge is all that's on my mind at this point.

Peace Corps is a good idea, but you need a college degree. :frown:

Are you prepaired to die for a cause that isnt worth saving?
by joining the armed forces, you will become part of the problem
do you want to have the blood of innocents on your hands?
do you wish to be an insignificant pawn that can be sacrificed for a "greater" cause?
i know people that were going to join, in the same situation as you, some didnt and some did, those that did regretted it and those that didnt regard it as the best decision of their lives

right now the world is building up for a war of massive proportions.

the EU (european union) is now forming its own armed forces, and will soon be splitting off of nato. causing what may be the third and final world war. if you want to say that you were a part of the end of it all, thats up to you. but i sure as hwll wouldnt.

every person that joins that armed forces is a part of the problem, and if your goal in this world is to make the world a worse place then by all means join, just dont complain when you come back with a few missing limbs, or a nice new wooden casket and a flag for your family.
