Melbourne, wood chip find?

Habitat:
Found on wood chips, growing in groups. Some are connected. See pics attached.

Gills:
Gills are an orange-brown, quite soft.

Stem:
Stems are quite squishy. Look like they have little veins/lines running down them.

Cap:
Some of these mushrooms are pretty big. Maybe 4 inches and above in diameter, some smaller. Think I have some babies, and some adults! See pics. Sorta Brownish on the outer edge and orangey in the middle. they are spotted.

Spore print color:
Doing now

Bruising:
It looks like a redish purple to me.

Other information:
Mushroom is a pleasant smell. Not bad at all. The younger ones look a bit different to the older ones. Some at the location where I found it had split caps at the end (the bigger ones)

I'm gonna hazard a guess (and I mean guess) at a Gymnopilus of some sort..

never thought mushroom hunting can be so fun!
yes my goal is to get actives, but even finding different genus of mushrooms and so forth is so fun aswell! especially when you have a hunting buddy.

and every time i find one, i can identify it the next time i see it so im learning heaps too.

but yes, thanks everyone for replies and the t.i's for constantly answering i.d requests :smile:

Someone please explain to me what Gymnopilus 'jr' is? I have seen this 'Jr.' several times now that I have been back here in the forums.

I think it might be an Australian thing,I'm seeing a lot of gym posts from there in the last week or so and they seem to refer to them as Gym.jr..I myself have always called them Gymnopilus spectabilis.

wait, so i just wikipedia'd them.. it says some sub species contain psilocybin. are these ones active? im assuming so due to the redish purple bruising?

From what I understand, they're rarely active in Australia. I think you're looking for more greeney-blue bruising..
