Wood Chips
    #5194530 - 01/18/06 10:45 AM (18 years, 1 month ago)

How old do wood chips have to be for mushrooms to grow in?  I have about 2 acres of spread and piled wood chips ranging from, 15yrs-2weeks old? I haven't looked for shrooms there yet, but if nothing is found, would it be possible for me to activate this area? Or am I just an Idiot? :stoned:

its not an age thing, its an if they are colonized thing. I have cut fresh brances off of a tree and colonated them and grown shiitakes in 6 weeks worth of time

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

1) Find out what kind of mushrooms grow in your area.
2) Go look if they are already growing (I'm sure some are).
3) Aquire spores or mycelium for those you want.
4) Propogate/Plant the mycelium.
5) Wait for the fruits of your labor  and ENJOY!!!

Good Luck!
