The Fourth Kind * 1
    #12335310 -

Alright, so it's been a little while since I've posted something really out there.
Especially something that pushes my level of comfort to its edges.
But this is the one thing I have experienced that I have absolutely no explanation for.
It completely obliterated what I thought I knew about the way things work.

Slight background of why this post, and why now...
A co-worker lent me the movie The Fourth Kind and I got around to watching it last night.
Prior to him lending the movie to me, we had been discussing aliens.
I had relayed to him one of the most profound experiences I've ever had.
One that felt distinctly alien.

It freaked him out that shortly after I told him this story, he watched the movie and saw some similarities.
He promptly lent me the movie to watch for myself.
When I watched the movie, it sort of freaked me out as well.
Not in a bad way, just in a way that causes one to wonder about things we normally push down.

For the majority of the time I watched the film, I was just analyzing it, catching little screwy things with the film timing (e.g. a scene that was supposed to be at a later time than the one prior, actually had an earlier time showing on the clock), taking in their use of a psychologist, thinking about what internal factors could be influencing the story line, etc.

But then something happened towards the very end. The man from the University who is interviewing the psychologist asks, "The alien described itself as God. Do you think this is true?" to which the psychologist responds, "All I could feel from them was hopelessness, so no, it couldn't have been God."

Which rocketed my mind back to my own experience.
So, without any more background, let me describe for your my experience.

I was on a medium sized dose of mushrooms, maybe 2.5-3g, and I was talking to a long time acquaintance on Yahoo messenger.
As I was talking with her, her roommate messaged me.
This was strange, he didn't usually talk to me.
They are both in their late 40's, both unmarried.
He's ex-military. She writes for a newspaper.
I've always wondered what their relationship really was, but she always denied any sexual relations.
And I mean really denied, as if it were disgusting to think about.

And the dude always seemed a little off to me.
As if he maybe had a disorder of some sort and was unable to take care of himself.
So I started asking her if they were related.
The delay between responses started to increase the more pressing my questions became.
Eventually, I asked a key question and never got to see a response...
Shit got weird in a hurry.

My computer screen went black -- everything shut down.
I'm looking at it in bewilderment when I feel a tugging.
Nothing gentle, but very forceful. It's prying into my head.
It takes control to which spurs emotions of sheer terror.
Fight or flight is in full gear, but I can't do anything.
My systems are slowly shutting down, as if all the energy in my body is being drained away.
Like being sucked dry from the inside, and all you can do is watch.

Just as I've given up hope, the world is dimming, my eyes are drooping, I'm heavily slouched in my chair,
not supported by any of my normal abilities...
release! I prop back up and take several breaths.
I get up and pace around, having no idea what to do or what the hell just happened.
I go into the bathroom and look in the mirror, I look completely mad.
My hair is askew all to one side and I slump against the entryway.
In shock, I would say... just trying to make sense of my surrounding but finding it difficult.

I pace around a moment more and then a good friend calls me.
Asks if I'm alright, he thought something might be up.
I tell him that I'm having a real strange go of things, tell him I'm not comfortable explaining it.
He just says he gets it, we kinda chat a bit and I start to calm down.
We get off the phone and I head back towards the computer.

It's back on....
Everything is exactly as it was before all of this.
Except for one thing... the chat windows from the messenger are all blank.
They are all open -- my conversations with everyone are all open -- but they are blank!
So I shut the computer down and went out for a walk to shake out some of the adrenaline that built up.

For nearly 2 years I barely told anyone of this experience.
And when I did, I told it to them in a most delicate manner.
So there you go Shroomery, that's my story.
I've never felt so hopeless in my life as I did during that experience.
Everything was out of my control and what was controlling it was shutting down my life-force.
It terrified and shook me to my core.

What makes it so difficult for my mind to grasp, is the physical correlates to this experience unfolding.
If my computer hadn't shut down and then come back on with all my chat erased,
I might have simply written the whole thing off as a reliving of a near-death experience I had when I was younger.
Experiencing and living through those repressed memories of dying.
But I just don't have any explanation for the changes in physical reality.
Nor some of the thoughts that went through my mind upon returning from this state.

Abduction is the key.
Alien experiences of the fourth kind.

It took hypnosis for those in the movie to uncover what they really experienced.
I relayed my story just from what I consciously have memory of.
And even that felt distinctly alien.

Yeah, I saw that movie and it really got my mental gears turning, too. It wasn't a cinematic masterpiece but when I heard that line at the end it really got me thinking. As a Gnostic, myself, her answer that because of that feeling of hopelessness she knew "They're not God, but they can pretend to be" really got me thinking. I'm not one for alien abduction theories but seeing that my mind started spitting out old memories of History Channel specials about 'UFOs in the Old Testament' describing angelic visions as alien encounters, and stuff like that.

Though I've never really had an experience quite like yours but I've lost consciousness three times in my life. Once was in church and twice during private prayer. Each time I woke up having no idea where I was or what was going on, every time thinking I was somewhere else doing something else before looking around and realizing that wasn't so. One time in particular I vividly remember was passing out during fervent prayer and meditation at 1-2 AM during the dead of winter and I came to thinking it was a spring/summer afternoon and that I fell asleep laying on the floor with my dog. I worried that my mother would come home and find me like that and get all freaked out and then I opened my eyes and it was early in the morning/late at night again and my dog was asleep in his crate on a different floor. I didn't note any differences though, I was too busy getting my mind together. Seeing that movie brought those experiences to the forefront of my mind and freaked me the fuck out.

I usually relish the messed up shit in horror movies but that was the one out of the countless others I've seen that seriously shook me.

Interesting story. Psychedelics open us up energetically. One could speculate there was some external influence keeping you from seeing the response to the IMs, or the IM experience could have been sheer coincidence... Perhaps in your fragmented terror you messed with the computer?

The interesting thing I have taken from abduction encounters is their striking similarities to positive experiences. For example, sleep paralysis can either become a terrifying struggle accompanied by perceived negative entities, or can become a platform to an OBE in which one communes with positive spirit guides, deceased relatives, orbs of loving light, etc. The internal state of the person, whether they react with terror or not, seems to be the key factor.

Did you recall a loss of time? Thanks for sharing your story, very intriguing.

Re: The Fourth Kind [Re: c0sm0nautt]
    #12337702 -

Yeah, c0sm0nautt. I've thought about that, too.

I'm not saying what happened to me had anything to do with aliens and I was completely straight (substance wise) when they happened. But like your sleep paralysis theory, I remember one of my first times using psychedelics. I was peaking during a trip on cubies and I kept feeling this influence telling me to 'let go'. I kept telling myself it was just the dr00gz and that I had to keep my wits about me or else I'd end up like those kids they tell you about in health class that get lost in a trip and go crazy. So I spent the next 45 minutes clinging to my ego, struggling against the magic of the mushrooms. Eventually I felt like they said 'Fine, pussy. You don't want it then fuck you' and I started to come down. I didn't get any sleep for the next 24 hours.

Now I know that if I went with it I would have probably had a full ego death and achieved conscious union with the 'All' or gained some kind of gnosis but I was too young, ignorant, and stubborn at the time to let it happen. If I wasn't as mystically inclined and hungry for wisdom as I am I probably would have been scared to death and turned off to psychedelics all together. It wasn't a bad trip or anything (luckily I've never had one), could have been much worse, I just felt like I'd been put through the wringer after it was all over. I learned a valuable lesson, though, so I can't knock it.

Let's look at your logic here:

*You were on magic mushrooms
*You were talking to someone on yahoo messenger
*You look at yahoo messenger and are unsure as to why your conversation disappeared

Nah, I don't recall any loss of time.
And while it's always possible that there is some rational reason why the computer came back on (i.e. I did it myself) it seems unlikely to me. I'm a very sound tripper, never departing too far from what I see around me, only how I relate to what is around me. I'll interact in society on a dose of shrooms just fine.

That's my logic?
Doesn't look like an accurate representation of my experience at all.
And the extraterrestrial bit is thematically appropriate for this forum.
You'll note I threw out a lot of possibilities, all of them appropriate for this forum.
I even put one possibility in the original post for those who prefer a psychological spin.

Tell me, what is your real problem with my story?
What leaps am I really making that you're not comfortable with?

Obviously you are not me, and have no idea what my psychedelic experiences are like, but it's a bit more complicated than simply becoming confused as to why a messenger conversation disappeared.

I don't have any problem with your story.

I just think that it's a little bit of a stretch to believe that you were abducted by extraterrestials because yahoo messenger was acting up.

The fact that you were on magic mushrooms seems like a more plausible explanation for your inability to account for what happened on yahoo. That's just me though.

So it's not a problem with my story, it's a problem with believing my account of it...?
Sounds like the same thing to me :tongue2:

I watched the computer crash -- you can claim it a hallucination if you want.
I'm certainly not closed to the possibility.
But it goes against at least a hundred other trips where visual hallucinations have been absent.
Which of course causes one to ask, why was this one different? And why was it so isolated?
You're going to have to provide more for this hypothesis before it carries any more weight than aliens.

Would you like to believe that you were abducted by aliens?

The fact of the matter is that if you had never even heard of aliens, the entire idea being completely foreign to you, this explanation would never cross your mind.

How could it cross your mind? All explanations of events are based off of memory.

If we substituted you in this story with a bushman from Africa who conveniently knew how to use yahoo messenger, do you think he would have arrived at the same explanation that you have?

We are constantly living in the past; there is nothing new in us.

I don't get what matter this is a fact of.
The same matter that you're trying to explain away with the same limitations as the alien theory?
I listed a multitude of ideas and it's open for anyone to try and pair down which is most probable.
You've told me which you think, but I haven't seen any reasoning as to why your decision is any more likely than the others.

Dunno, but I'd love to see this hypothetical population's explanations given a few specific circumstances (e.g., a prior NDE) that's for sure.

Yeah, that epic philosophy thread proved that brunettes win.

edit: i just realized someone asked this already. you said you don't know if you talked to her again? maybe she's still online and you can talk to her now?

oh, next question. ever thought about doing a hypnosis?
i'm laughing at this cause i'd be too scared. especially since i heard people often enough make up things on their own on hypnosis and believe it afterwards.

Yeah, she's still online and I do still talk to her.
I just don't know if right after I asked her what she experienced.
I'd imagine I did, but imaginings can be misleading so I'll stick with the I dunno reference.
Maybe I'll bring it up again sometime, but it's been years.

As for being hypnotized, yeah, I'd be open to the possibility.

I would definitely talk to her about it and see if anything weird happened on her end.

If so, then it may not have been a coincidence.

You are feeling sleepy. So sleepy that you want to send $100 to my pay pal account.

Um...  Aside from the humor...
You know how real that experience was, so do I.
Don't doubt the ability of some that are already here.
They can produce enough pressure to contort your face, drain your energy, and open up your head like a file cabinet.
They read.  But they'll fill you back up if you show and radiate love.

What were you talking/messaging about at the time...??

Agreed
Likewise, don't doubt your own abilities.

Well, what I remember for the most part I posted.
We were discussing her relationship with her roommate.
It was a mystery to me, and I wanted to know more.
Her answers fed my suspicions so my questions got narrower towards them.
I don't remember the specifics of my questions, it's too long past.
But the thought I was working towards was basically that the guy was mentally disabled (perhaps a war injury)
And she was related, most likely the sister, and had taken on the role of caring for him.

I had this weird dream last night. (I don't recall the entire thing because I was sleeping over the g/fs and forgot my voice recorder)

I’m sitting in my room and everything has a electric purple glow, almost like neon lights running through the comforter through other parts of the room. I got a sense that there was a coming convergence between neurology and technology (can't remember the exact two words, but it correlates which what this fella says towards the end), or something along those lines. All of a sudden I was forced to confront what I felt like was extra dimensional beings. I felt intense fear and quickly woke up.

I'm not sure. I definitely had a profound sense of the "other." The fear could have been completely uncalled for and manufactured. Purple for me is the color of spirituality, intuition and extra-sensory perception.

It is a sort of sinister warning that there is some person or some thing in the Universe outside oneself: and the realization of that is as frankly frightening as the other realization, that one is eternally alone, is horrible.
