Yeah, you have to do research when buying a good laptop. The power supply input jack fucks up on most laptops.

In most cases, when I worked at geek squad, we sent the PC away to a shop to have the entire motherboard replaced, since the power supply input jack is directly soldered onto the board.

If you have the skills to replace the jack yourself, then go to RadioShack, they have any kind of soldering accessory you could ever need, including wick.

That's the best thing to do IMO, unless it's a brand new laptop. Having the manufacturer replace the motherboard will cost almost as much as a new laptop.

If I wanted mobile processing, I would get a cheap netbook by a trusted company, you don't need a beast for browsing the web or doing powerpoint.

Yeah, radio shack not only didn't have soldering wick, all three employees had no idea what it was.and get some ratings out, I appreciate greatly having you guys as resources. I'd have shot this thing to pieces with my 12 gauge without ya

My advice is to find those things that give pleasure and do them often without too much attachment and relax and wait for the show to end.

I like free markets and all. Truly I do, at least in general, but there needs to be some kind of oversight in recognition of sustainability. Life works the same way, on a bunch of sustainable systems. Why not honor what made us what we are and take some lessons? Nature FTW!

He charged you 200 for that? Damn, that's good business. Go back and demand a working power supply.

Can't. Bastard has a thirty day clause that I signed. It's been three months. Prolly gave me a used one. Isn't that a bitch.

Recomended by my family doctor too. I think I should sit her down and have a little chat about her computer buddy.

I'm not from America, but in Holland it doesn't matter what you sign. They can't rip you off and sell you shit that doesn't work. Go back and demand a working power supply. Justice doesn't come in clauses. At least give him a hard time. Get up, stand up! :smirk:

Damn, what radio shack do you go to!

Probably because they call it a "Desoldering Braid" on the website, this is what you're looking for right?

Catalog #: 64-2090

Go up there with this number and they can order it for you if they don't already have it in stock. I used to work there.

Yeah, that's right. I don't know about the US, but around here, it's simply impossible to have customers sign any decent warranty away. Then again, we have a pussy legal system Annom, and you know it

The most you can do is report their business, and hope BBB or some kind of agency looks into it most likely. To be honest, I don't know shit about legalities though, except when it comes to drugs.

Nah, reporting is a final resort. Go up to the store/guy, tell him why you think you're entitled to a working article and insist you get it free of charge because he failed to serve you properly in the first place. This is where negotiation and communication skills really come into play.

Customers have a lot of rights. You have a warranty, by law, for as long as you can reasonably expect a product to work. That's at least 3 years for most electronics. Problem is that it's up to a judge and who goes to court for a broken laptop? Buying the 2 years extra warranty makes it easier to actually get it, but you don't need it from a legal point of view.

The extra warranty is what most electronic shops profit from, they can't live without them. I never buy them though, much cheaper on the long run to just pay for it when something breaks. It's a very expensive insurance. Only insure the very expensive things in life, like healthcare and your house.

This is only true for the EU, and it usually translates into a 2 year warranty period for home electronics such as PC's, digital cameras and television sets. But yeah, it might be a hassle getting what is rightfully yours, so many people will just buy the additional warranty and be done with it.

Yes, 2 years by EU law, but it can be longer by Dutch law, but that's up to a judge and depends on the product.

Shit, yeah. That's exactly what I wanted. I know how to work a soldering iron, and with that, I could have replaced that part myself. Fucking retards at the RS in the hood didn't have any clue what I was talking about. I was like, "it's braided and has a higher affinity for the solder, it sucks it right off the board." They we're like, "here's what we use now," and gave me that modified nose sucker.

Thanks for looking that up for me though, if I ever need it, I know how to find it now.

I called him this morning, and he told me to fuck off, at least politely though. And yeah, in America, you sign something, the courts will cut your balls off if you don't live up to the contract.

Looks like I'm going back to the piss poor dell supply for $40 more bucks I don't have.
