Wavelength of light that initiates pinning in cubensis?
    #1217427 - 01/14/03 09:18 AM (21 years, 2 months ago)

Just wondering what the effective range of light (wavelength) is for primordia formation. I'm looking for numbers not descriptions. Im just finishing up plans from an entirely self contained and battery powered mushroom environment, details of which i will post in a few weeks.
Thanks for the help fellas
H

According to stamets the optimal range is 440-495nm and the best wavelenght in primordia formation is 480 nm.

I don't have the source handy, but from some research done a few years back the blue end of the spectrum seemed to be what was important. The red end had very little effect. They also found that it only took a few milliseconds of light (each day I think, gonna have to find the paper to be sure) to initiate pinning.

Even though very little time is needed to initiate pinning, it seems that light helps the mushrooms know which direction to grow. If you grow them in the dark, they tend to get narly and twisted instead of tall and proud.

UV and blue wavelengths of 370, 440 and 460 nm were the most effective.
Green and red wavelengths greater than 510 nm were ineffective.

Mycology is a lot like quantum mechanics in that we don?t have causal relationships like in Newtonian physics, only probabilities of various outcomes.<=== Misapropriated from Mycofile
