so i left frozen chicken sitting out...

on my table for about 8 hours to thaw out. i got home and the bag is still cold, but it's clearly been thawed out and sitting in it's juice (kinda looks like bloody juice). is it still okay to cook this shit? or should i scrap it?

Yeah its defiantly still good, sometimes when I'm dethawing a large frozen piece of solid meat it can take overnight or even quite a bit  longer :thumbup:

yeah i'm just trippin because everything i've read online says not to let chicken sit out at room temp. for more than 4 hours or you risk getting ill.

Ideally yeah. Fridge thawing overnight is best.

If you're super paranoid take it's temperature. If it's under 40F you're all set, and if it's near 40F you're probably okay. The rule of thumb for the ultra paranoid is no more than an hour between 40F and 140F. In practice you can get away with a bit more.

Just cook it a little longer to make sure it's well done. I always do this with meat but I like my meat a little burnt :pacman:

It is best to let it thaw in the fridge rather than at room temp. But it should still be fine because most of the bacteria is killed in the heat when you cook it.

My girlfriend threw out a full package of 8 ribs last night because she thought they went bad. And we thawed them in the fridge too. :shrug:

As long as the chicken was still cool and didnt have a funky smell you should be ok.

Next time unthaw in the fridge or run cool water over the meet to unthaw it. The water trick works great and doesnt take nearly as long also a hell of a lot safer
