health care reform
    #12169552 -

Why are republicans so afraid of health care reform? I haven't heard a valid argument that makes sense, maybe the good people of the shroomery can help shine some light on this issue for me.
It almost seems like common  sense to me that the strongest country in the world has the strongest health care system for its people. Currently we are 37The in the world for quality of health care, that's only right behind Cuba. How can this be? Where did we go wrong as Americans to leet our very own health care system fall to such a low?
So I assume the argument is that people don't want the government so involved in our personal lives? What the hell does that even mean? Seriously, that's just a bullshit propaganda statement made to put fear in a conspiracy ridin country such as our own. Currently health care corporations are allowed to drop you from their plan if you get "too sick". That's right, they get to decide when you die or not, even if you pay your premiums on time, and they also have the right to not give you coverage based on a pre-existing condition you might have.

I believe that CEOs should be held responsible for this mass genocide. If you drop the sick because its too expensive then you should be held responsible for their death.

Well, conservatives are for free markets and personal prosperity without the government interfering with their prospects. Liberals want the government to do everything for them.

Why would a conservative want the same health care as a liberal? So if the government gives the liberals a sub-par solution to keep them happy then the conservatives have to give in to what all those cheap bastards want and get rid of their quality health care that they work hard for and trade it for some crap where they have to get on a mile-long waiting list??? Fuck that.

Here-in lies the problem..

Why would anyone have to give up their health care? The government isn't trying to take your health insurance away, they're just trying to regulate it so you can't get dropped and denied based on how sick you are. You can keep your insurance that you worked so hard for but be prepared to work even harder when your sick because your rates just got raised. In fact in California a health insurance company just raised their premiums 39% for EVERYONE. How is that OK?
I don't want anything for FREE I believe every able working person should work hard in life, but you should work hard for MONEY. You can work as hard as you want for your superior health care, but what are you gonna do if you get cancer and they decide to just drop you? How superior is your health insurance now? Well you got money right? So pay for it out of your pocket, or sell your house ...maybe the health insurance company will refund you the thousands of dollars you have payed them over the years you didn't need help lol.. go ahead and ask them and they will say "fuck that"
Because businesses are meant to profit and they can't profit off a sick person, no matter it your a liberal or conservative. They don't care about you or your political stand. Your just a customer.

As for waiting in lines.. that's propaganda, lines won't get longer just because your not able to be dropped by your health insurance. That doesn't even make sense.

Oh and by the way.. the conservative politicians that work so hard for their health insurance..don't pay for it at all, they are covered under a federal health care plan...oh wait that must make them mooches that want everything for free...

I rarely discuss my politics on the Shroomery, but I don't get more riled up about anything more than I do about health care.

Health care is a basic human right and no one should be refused treatment or medical assistance in the most prosperous nation in the world. The strong have an obligation to protect the weak.

because its morally wrong to tax billionaires and bank executives a few extra dollars to make sure all americans have access to fair health insurance. billionaires and bank executives are an oppressed minority in our country. its better to let insurance companies deny treatment than to offend our corporate overlords.

If I lost someone close to me because a health insurance company dropped them when they were sick.. you better believe ill be walking up to the CEO of that health insurance company and making things even.
Its just a basic human right and common sense to allow someone to be treated that lives just a few miles from their cure.
I know this example is very extreme and wouldn't happen.. but imagine getting bit by a poisonous snake and your right there at the hospital where the antidote is and the doctor is just about to save your life when all of a sudden they realize your not covered for that specific antidote so your just gonna have to die.
Well that example isn't too far fetched when you consider what cancer patients go through when they are denied treatment.

I don't even have health insurance. I was just putting it in perspective from what I've heard. I agree with you. But I'm young and careless so I don't anticipate I'll fall sick anytime soon. If I do then I'm fucked, it's sad yeah but it's still my problem. I don't expect anybody to pity me..

'Tis the 'American way'. I've come to terms with that. I figure the sooner, the better, so I can make sure to be as healthy as possible on my own watch and maintain a healthy paranoia in situations where I expose myself to anything potentially harmful. Personally, this mindset seems far more progressive to me.

The whole waiting line thing is something many Canadians have shared with me. idk how accurate it is but I'll take their word for it; I don't live there. Can any Canadians please elaborate on the state of your current health care system? What sort of strings are attached? Is all the praise coming with due merit?

btw, I hardly even trust the methods of cancer treatment as it is. Once/if they find the REAL cure I'm sold. Until then it's just a bunch of charades.

do you honestly believe that? :whatever:

they would give him the antidote in the ER, and then charge him after he was healed.

you talk about propaganda, but you're just another leftist fear monger.

not that we don't need some kind of health care reform..

I'm not attacking you I'm just looking for a good debate, I'm young and healthy also so I haven't needed any major health care yet. I live in Massachusetts so its the law to have health insurance, you get fined if you don't. So this allows companies to charge what ever they want, they know we need it.
As for waiting in lines. Your thinking of universal health care, that's what Canada has. The ultimate long term goal for obama is to have a similar health care system for the United states but we are far from seeing that. And by the way.. when was the last time you've waited in an Emergency room? Around here the average wait to see a doctor is over 3 hours! A 3 hour wait and you can still get denied care after waiting.
I haven't had any serious problems but I've been in a motorcycle accident and was knocked out cold, when I opened my eyes I was surrounded by nurses just staring down on me, the first question they asked me is " do you have insurance" . And this was at Mass General Hospital, the best in the world.

Of course that snake bite thing would never happen, that's why I wrote " this is an extreme example and would never happen" I was just trying to give a dumbed down exaple to give an idiot like you a simple comparison that you can understand.

Parents, with sick children in their arms, have been turned away from hospitals because their insurance isn't accepted there. One woman actually had her daughter go into a seizure and die in the lobby because of this filth.

The example he gave is not that far off from the reality.

Yes, I've been to the ER plenty of times. I got served right away even without insurance. It's just a question. Do you or don't you? They're not gonna deny you service. In fact, they will do all they can to get you on a deferred fees program and still give you all the attention that is necessary to find out if they NEED to go any further.

Also, if you don't pay by a certain time it's not linked to credit reporting or anything like that and they WILL drop up to $2000 in fees for their services. The things you can't avoid paying for are things like radiology and pharmaceuticals because they're separate enterprises from the hospital itself.

They're willing to work with people, but are people willing to work with them? It's not as easy with all this fear being fed all over the place. People like us need to stop it in its tracks if we expect anything to change.

Evidence? Sounds far too convenient if you ask me. I'm sure there was some sort of accident involved. Either the mother not being reasonable enough to calm down while the child died, the child dying before the professionals could make it to her, or the child had no hope and would have died anyway because that's not too rare of a case. The mom and media most likely made a huge fuss blaming it on the system, and some suckers actually believe a distressed mother and some reporter trying to make a buck. It's pretty sad if you ask me.

Id like to correct myself, your absolutely right about the emergency rooms usually trying to help you out, in Massachusetts its ilegal for an emergency room to turn you away but other private hospitals will, I broke my arm as a kid and was turned down help because I went to the wrong clinic.
So it does happen.
See I live in Boston so the wait in the ER is always over 3 hours long, but that's because all the imigrants pack up the ER and use it as their primary health car because they can't get insurance through their jobs.
Now if you have a seriouse problem that needs a specialist like you've stated then your now at a dead end. You can only get so much done by visiting the ER.
By the way $2000 is nothing in the medical world.

How closed minded do you have to be to actually think that America is 37th in world wide health care? People come from all over the world to be treated in American hospitals because it is widely known we provide the best care and have the latest and greatest in medical technology. EVERYONE who needs to be treated is treated. Hospitals cannot, by law, deny care to anybody! Health care is a RIGHT, health insurance is a SERVICE that you pay for. If 20% of Americans are uninsured, how can the feds possibly extend coverage to those millions of people while lowering the cost? It's simple math that doesn't add up and that is why close to 60% of Americans are strongly against Obamacare. Plus, it will be mandatory. If you don't have health care it's because you can't afford it. How the fuck is making insurance that you fucking pay for mandatory going to help these people? "Millions of Americans can't afford health insurance. To fix this, we are going to make it mandatory that they all start paying for health insurance. Yes that will solve the problem". There is so fucking much that can and will go wrong with this I could go on for days. And by the way, I don't have health insurance. And, like most Americans I DO NOT WANT OBAMACARE! /end rant/

I think we'd have a lot more funds available for health care reforms if we weren't involved in the entangling affairs overseas. We should first pull out of all "wars" and foreign bases before we consider dumping billions into another huge government initiative.

Second we need to remove all illegal aliens starting with the ones that have broken the law, because there is no sense in giving all sorts of great health care to non-citizens.

Once these criteria are met, then I feel it is time to initiate health care reform. In the mean time of course we can always discuss and streamline exactly how it will be implemented when the time is right.

Yeah, $2000 is pocket change. I can only speak through experience. I busted my wrist when I was a child and it took like 4 hrs to finally get to the right place to get it set and have a cast put on it. Some of the doctors were out of town because given, it was a Saturday and some didn't have the means to do it(and I'm glad they didn't attempt to!)

Also, there is more than one way to pay for hospital bills. For instance, I sued the city for this particular incident for having unsafe conditions. The parking lot it happened on was for a vacant building that the city owned and was all jacked up. It was obvious that it should be fixed. So they fixed it, paid my costs, and I got $7000 pain and suffering compensation when I turned 18.

It's no question why I have no faith in the health care system as the government wants you to see it. Insurance is a last resort in my eyes. There are plenty of other ways to get your shit paid for. Just be smart and you'll be alright. Screw everybody else. Let them fuck themselves over and feed the monster. :yesnod:
