I think the pick definitely has a big part in how the sound comes out.

A big thick pick can make it sound so much stronger and bold. That's how I see it anyway.

^^^yep, pick attack is crucial in tone.  if you pick like a bitch your tone sounds weak.  no other way around it

i just sometimes find thicker picks come off clunkier and chunkier..??? but again depends on style being played.

Sometimes I find it hard to pick each note evenly,like if I'm coming down on heavier string from the lighter ones,I can dig in too hard.

I use my baby and ring fingers for rests too.

What do ye do?

That's another thing;if I fingerpick,it can sound as if I'm scratching the strings,you know what I mean?

My thumb plays smooth but it's as if because my fingers are moving the other way,that it's not coming out right or something...

Or I could be just paranoid:lol: I hear it all the time though.

My friend just told me a while back that I should be moving on to heavier picks. I tried one and I haven't looked back since.:thumbup:

do you just play with your finger tips?? or maybe trim your nails?? ha

and im not sure...just grew up with that style of music and emulated it for years so i got really good at fingerpicking...i love the smoothness and softness it adds. when laying tracks down..ill fingerpick a track and play another with a guitar to add depth and some new sounds.

confidence is so key on guitar, or any instrument for that matter, or any thing for that matter.

But I think with guitar especially the people that can just throw down are usually better than the people who try to be super finesse and technical all the time. 

Of course if you can do both really well then you're a god.

I always anchor my pinkie on the pickup guard on my guitar and use that as a reference.  honestly though, I can't really describe my picking style... the best I can give you is I studied Zakk Wylde and Dimebag's style like it was going out of style for years on end.  with idols like that you're bound to pick up a killer pick attack if you stick with it.  all I can tell ya is practice makes perfect.  no one guitarist plays exactly the same, just keep playing things until you get it right.

I bite my nails so they're never long enoug hto effect playing. I feel I do only use the tips though. Should I be using more of my finger? Like dig in more?

I feel it be hitting other strings if I did though...

confidence is k3y but practice really is the answer to being any good.  things like being technical and having finesse comes from dedication.  I always strive to be the best player I've ever heard.  I'm still not there yet so I still practice really really hard :lol:

I use a pick made of fabric when I do use one. It maybe cotton or felt, I'm not really sure. I play bass, though.

depends on what style i'm playing.

I usually sit around 30 though.

Wiki to the rescue with strange facts:

Brian May of Queen uses picks which replicate his original choice — a silver sixpence coin.

Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top uses a regular Mexican peso,[3][4] usually filed down to more usual pick shape, resembling 351.

Eddie Van Halen holds the pick between his thumb and middle finger
