depends on how you are growing.if you are going to birth cakes,go with the perlite.if you are casing then go with the spraying.with the casing, you only want about 85-92 percent humidity.100 percent humidity with the cakes. If your casing, make sure you dont over do it.cease once the casing is colonized with mycelum.Too much h20 will lead to contaminants and failure for sure.

you will probably want to use perlite, I hear it works very well, and I plan to use it when the time comes... spraying must just be a hassle...

spraying IS a hastle, never did i have such bad luck, than when i sprayed everyday.perilite is so easy,i leave my rubermaid to fend for itself, and air it out every day, some times not for two or three days, with no problem.man i get some big ones too,but that might have nothing to do with the perilite.....

definately use some perlite to start. about 2 inches in the tank. this may be all you need, though i like the pf style drip sheild configuration too so i can increase humidity if necessary. i swich between the drip sheild and just a simple plexiglass top resting on it. the top is left open partially, most of the time with some tubes running in to move the air.good luck

I have used a larger rubbermade container with a bed of perlite in the bottom. With a smaller container full of cased substrate with no problems. I just fanned it out once a day. Worked well with cased substrate or cakes.------------------ "IT's two in the morning.....Do you know where your flashlite and paper bag are?"

I like perlite, it can get messy at times whenever you go to clean up but it's worth it. You can easily achieve the humidity levels that you need for your terrainum. Just keep a tight lid and you'll be A-OTAY!Just remember to fan it out 2-3 times a day to get a good air exchange and you should be fine:-)
