Should I do this?
    #11922067 -

My son got off the bus with a written warning that had to be signed by me. I guess there was a wadded up paper in his seat when he got on the bus, so when he got to the seat he tossed it behind him in a empty seat. The bus driver saw this and he got in trouble for throwing paper on the bus. She also added that she want's him to write 10 times that, "I will not throw paper  on the bus." After hearing his story and reading the warning I can't believe that this has gotten this far. It was a piece of fucking paper and he didn't throw it at anybody. She could have just warned him verbally because he has never done this before on the bus. I think asking for 10 lines is just overboard so I just signed the warning and wrote on it, "Creating a connection in my 8 year old sons mind that writing is a punishment is not in my interests. We had a talk and he wont do it again."

Am I going to far here? Should I just make him do the lines before school in the morning? I think it's just fucking ridiculous and I don't think that a bus driver should be making him write lines as a punishment at all let alone for something so trivial.

Please give me some decent advice. :todcasil:

The child is yours to raise and not anyone Else's. It sounds like you are a caring and attentive parent so you are well within your rights. Just be sure that you actually do have all the facts. Not that you shouldn't believe your son. Just that if you are going to take a stand, be sure that you are taking a stand on something that you are sure of.

Then again, the bus driver is a real person and is responsible for keeping the bus clean.

Ten lines ain't shit.  It's not like it's multiple pages, front and back (been there).

You are within your rights as a parent.  I'm sure, though, that your child will have animosity towards the driver now that he has been reprimanded by him/her.

How old is the child?

See the OP. "...my 8 year old son...."

And: If the bus driver is in charge of keeping the bus clean, why was there there little ALREADY ON THE SEAT when he got on?

So, there wouldn't have been anything to tossinto an empty seat, had the bus driver done his/her job.

My son would never lie to me. He is the really sweet, always trying to please mom and dad type of kid. He came home and told me the whole story even tho it didn't make him look completely innocent. I called the school and I found out that the drivers go on a power trip sometimes over trivial things. I also found out that they have 0 authority to hand out any type of punishment. My son apologized and we had a talk about respecting the rules and the bus driver. I told him to hand her the note and say he was sorry for being disruptive. I know he probably used those exact words, the boy uses bigger words than I do and talks respectively all the time. I really couldn't ask for a better son honestly.

Raising my boys is my number one priority in life, I guess you could say they will be the best they can be because we raise them to know their worth and to stand up for the things they believe in. I told him that writing is NOT a punishment, and that if anyone ever tries to make him write as a form of punishment then he needs to call me immediately. At his age EVERYTHING that goes on around him and to him is very impressionable, and I don't want him hating something as awesome as reading or writing. He is 8 years old and reads harry potter and lord of the rings books. He makes his own stories and draws out battles from his stories all the time. I want to encourage his writing not make it a form of punishment.

Thank you guys for giving me resolve to stand up for what I thought was right. You guys are awesome.

no, what you want to do is go in there by pretending to give your kid his lunch in a box

then you pull out a sawed-off shotgun then take the bus for a 'ride'

after that, a desert eagle should emerge from the lunchbox if anyone is to run away

they will never fuck with your kid again
and you have to take those 10 'lines'

Your all good bro. It's encouraging to hear of you love and devotion to your child and of your desire to be a great parent. By doing so, you are giving him one of the biggest legs up in life that he will ever have.
I applaud you.

op your spot on.
making your kid write should never be
used as a punishment
im living prof of that
going through high school i would always feel like it was punishment to write any thing.
i also am dyslexic so if i made a mistake i would have to write the punishment all over again because they would think i was being lazy and was trying to get out of my punishment
but a good way to punish is to have them pull weeds
for some reason i would loved to get that punishment.
i could never get enough of being out side
and still love to garden  not saying every one is the same
but i fined best punishment are the mundane ones
and you let them do it by them selves to gain self reliance
and blow off some steam when they think you are not looking.

I know someone who has a very long gravel lane and one of the things he has done with his children when one of them has misbehaved is to take ten pennies or so and drop them sporadically along the lane as he is going down it. He will then have the kid go out and search for all of the pennies while thinking about what they have done. Obviously, this is only employed in decent weather but it gives the kid something to do (much like pulling weeds) and time to think.
When the kid returns with all of the pennies, however many were scattered. They sit down and then he beats them with a thorn bush.
just kidding about the beating.

Whenever my son does something that requires punishment I just sit him down and talk to him about it. We go over what course of action he should have taken instead of the one he took to cause a problem. I really have never had to punish him because he is really just a good kid. I have only spanked him 2 times in his life. One time he climbed out on the roof because the cat broke his screen out and he was scared that his cat was going to get hurt, and the other time he hit his mom out of anger. I understand why he was scared for the cat, but he knows better than to even go near the windows on the 2nd floor. When he hit his mom I just put him over my knee right then and there and spanked him while saying that you NEVER hit your mother. He took off on his bike once and we couldn't find him for 45 minutes. We were so scared my wife was crying and I was on teh verge of calling the police. He went on a bike ride with 2 friends without telling anyone. He was grounded from his bike for a month for that.

Other than that he really has done nothing bad at all. He is a very sweet kid and we get complements from a lot of people. My youngest son is 1 and a half years old. That boy needs spanked every 5 minutes. He is the trouble maker and he is a feisty little guy. The difference between them is like night and day. I may have to switch tactics on him because I know what works for his brother is not going to work for him at all. He is loud and walks around the house like a belligerent drunk just breaking things and screaming all the time. The boy is nuts! I know he is going to be the football player in the family lol. He is already bigger than most kids his age and he is solid like I am. My 8 year old is a skinny kid with glasses and is very soft spoken.

I read the line "My son would never lie to me." and laughed.

Ahh parents. I've one on the way and relish becoming another know it all blinkered asshole who cant see beyond his own kids.

And that's not a jab at you OP, everybody who has kids goes from being normal to a complete fucking asshole.

In my day we had to write a thousand lines and we had to be ingenious to get them done. Personally I always used the writing words down the page trick, so you write a page of I's then of will's and then nots and so on. I never liked the the 2 or 3 pens taped together method. Kids who used carbon paper always got caught.

10 fucking lines and you're picking a fight over it? dude, it doesn't matter how right you are, and you are right, but you're also an asshole.

The bus driver deals with asshole kids and asshole parents every day. Hes had dicks make this protest a thousand times for fucks sake.

He is 8. I'm not talking about some teenager who has mastered the art of lies. I know when he is telling me the truth. If I'm good at anything it is reading people, and reading whether my son is lieing to me or not is still really easy.
