Survival ain't for sissies.

Actually because of that I may opt out of survival. I know enough about it to know how difficult it is without having human's as marauding enemies. It would be shoot first and ask questions later. I'm not too sure I would want to live like that at my age.

I think it's interesting that so many people are eager to buy gold these days. It seems that it's in preparation for something economically disastrous. After all, our money is basically worthless paper. It doesn't have a permanent value assigned to it, unlike gold.  :egyptian:

Gold doesn't have a permanent value assigned to it either. Values aren't permanent - doesn't matter if they're aesthetic or economic values.

The reasons people trust gold are several. Like you mentioned, as long as the government is still working, it can be used as currency when the money is defunct. Also, gold is nearly universally desired and can be used, traded and produced without the help of computers, treasuries, etc. Also, because it won't disappear like your money, stocks, etc will when the economic system crashes. And there are other reasons, like being a charged object that provides security for the weak of spirit...

"We're the government and we are still working.  Remain calm as you board the train.  Blues to the right, reds to the left."

"A charged object that provides security for the weak of spirit"

I knew there was a reason why I sleep with it under my pillow...

Look when you buy it at $500 and now it's worth %1000 and stocks are down over that same time frame it's all good (as gold HAR HAR)

So I'm happy I owned a little and owned very little stocks and that continues to be the case.

As for gold being worth much in time of real calamity, I would say no.  Later, yes.  And don't forget the government was working hard in 1933 seizing people's gold under duress and later selling it to the real powers that be.  The one's in charge of economic collapses, earthquakes, the weather, the schools, the universities, the companies of various kinds but specializing in oil and plastics and ugly pharmaceuticals and new nasty foods that have all kinds of wierd genes from only Monsanto (God) knows who.  Patenting life and killing it off but Profitably!  All Good Business as Usual.  Just keep them alive long enough to maximize the "Lifetime" return of the Debt Slaves.
