another cannabutter thread

so the other day i made my first batch of cannabutter, and it turned out ok..   
i did a half ounce of mids with a half pound of butter, which from what i read was supposed to be a good combination. supposed to be powerful..
but the butter wasnt that good.  dont get me wrong, i was high all day and the next, but i had to eat a lot. 

my question is,  what do i have to do to make it more potent??    im asking all of you that are experienced butter makers. 

please lend me some helpful tips!!!  thanks.

coconut oil is supposed to be better at absorbing the THC then butter and interchangeable in most recipes. other then that use more bud.

He's right to mention Coconut Oil as the best, it contains very high amounts of saturated fats. Try and find an organic, GMO free, oil. they taste superb. Also, you can use Ghee Butter (a clarified butter) works very well in brownie recipes.

Practice makes perfect, but I'll lend my advice. I've got my butter down to a science, baking is the hard part. :wink:

--When making a butter, you must maintain proper temperatures for long periods of time. The level of quality will ultimately determine the length of the heating process. This can be done in many ways, these include;

1. Using a stovetop method:
  a. One would need a few simple tools of the kitchen to properly do this. A few are, but not limited too, a metal bowl, pyrex measuring cups, metal filter's (of varying sizes. I like to use metal filters, because cheese cloth doesn't strain well enough,) a large enough boiling pot to accommodate the metal bowl, or the pyrex cup.
  b. The idea here is to boil water in the pot, only high enough as to surround the pyrex, or the float around the metal bowl. The water will have to be refilled and monitored as needed. (BE CAREFUL)
  c. let water boil at medium to medium low temp for several hours, the mix will go from green, to dark amber.
  d. strain and allow to cool in appropriate container in the refrigerator.
      ---Whatever amount you use is upto you. enough to fit, I like to shoot for (shwag) around an ounce per cup. makes for some very stoned brownies. It wouldn't equal near the same for higher quality. Top grade would more likely be around a quarter per half cup. More or less to taste.---

2. Crockpot
  a. This method is a great way to make high quality butter without much fuss. To start things off, a safe place is needed. Kitchen or bathroom is best. A pyrex cup is needed along with filters.
  b. add the butter and finely chopped herb to the pyrex
  c. set the temp at a high enough temp that will at least exceed 200+ degrees.
  d. set a timer for any length of time.
  e. repeat step above for straining. and cooling.

  ---Note that people will tend to vary in the times they use, a crockpot method is a great tool for long extractions. And it isn't uncommon to hear some bakers go for upto 24 hours! Talk about strong stuff!---

Things to remember, stir frequently, taste often, and never EVER let it burn! When in doubt turn down the heat, it won't affect the oil negatively, it will only take longer. Experiment, you never know what kind of goodies can be made!

A GREAT recipe that I like to use is pretty simple, and incredibly delicous:

 
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles


Makes approx. 3-4 dozen.

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup (2 sticks) butter or margarine, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/3 cup milk or soy milk
1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips

14 oz dark chocolate candy coating

Directions
Beat butter and sugars and in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add soymilk and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt and mix on low speed (or by hand) until incorporated. Stir in chocolate chips.

Cover and chill dough for 1 hour.

When dough is firm enough to handle (it may help to lightly flour your hands), form dough into 1″ balls and arrange on a baking sheet lined with waxed paper. Place sheets in freezer and let chill for 30 minutes.

Melt chocolate candy coating in a double boiler or in microwave according to package directions. Using forks or a dipping tool, dip cookie balls into candy coating to cover. Tap fork on side of pan to remove any excess coating, and return to waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Chill until set. Store, chilled, in an airtight container for up to 1 week (though good luck making them last that long).


Copied directly from " Love and Olive Oil "(Credit where credit is due, this recipe is FANTASTIC!) I like to make mine organic, but you're free to tinker with any of the above to suite your needs.

ok, so did you say in the first method that an ounce of shwag with a [cup?]  of butter should be good?

I am guessing you put water in the crockpot, then put the pyrex cup in. Like the double boiler on the stove, except using the crockpot?

you reckon you could use cocnut oil to replace butter in flapjacks?
same method of extraction? - 3 hours light heat in water/oil mix?
