whats your opinion on the haiti disaster?
    #11839853 -

Id like to consider myself a good person who generally cares about others and feels sympathy for people going through disasters such as the one happening in Haiti, but the more news coverage I watch the more I find myself cheering the disaster. I know its not right but I honestly tried to feel bad and just cant.
Disasters like these test our community for character and our place on this earth as caring intelligent human beings.

During 9/11 in the USA we were  attacked, I understand it was a much smaller scale disaster than what Haiti is going through but its the best example I have. Anyway. During the 9/11 attacks we saw Americans come together to do what they could to help each other in need, the thirsty shared their water and the hungry shared their food, the crippled helped the crippled and the brave sacrificed their lives as we all came together as one to overcome disaster. And this is in NEW YORK!

Now Haiti....
I'm watch the news and I see how Haiti is handling their situation and its disgusting.  Yes they are showing clips of people being dug out from rubble and I realize not everyone there is a bad person but what's the majority doing in Haiti?
Well it seems like they call for US to help them out, we get there and donate food and water and what do they do? They KILL each other over it. People fighting stabbing and killing their own woman and children over a bottle of water or an apple, bodies being burnt in the street with lack of respect or identification, children's limbs are being cut off and stores are being looted.

I can't imagine what other horrid things those people are doing to each other during their time of need but I'm sure it would disgust me if I knew. I can only think about how savage and thoughtless these people are as they run around like brainless maniacs making their situation much worse. I oppose us sending any type of support especially money to a country that is corrupt and unorganized as itself.

And for those of you who are going to tell me that Haitians aren't bad people they are just in a product of their enviroment, I challenge anyone to take a walk through " little Haiti" in Florida and if you come out alive we can then discuss your opinion.

I think you need to learn more about Haiti.

It's a mother fucking REALLY POOR country. THEY NEED HELP

If your hand was chopped off and the doctors were ALL TOO BUSY what the FUCK would you do?

Because there are people seriously suffering out there RIGHT NOW. Can you imagine that?

All their hospitals have to be more than full right now. So many people aren't even getting taken care of

Why are they poor, because of a militant, corrupt government. Yes, they deserve help, but at what cost??? If we can't even get them aid without the "government" stealing that shit, where does that leave the relief effort? Are we gonna send in troops to help, well that would just be seen as an occupation, right?

I agree its a horrible thing and I'm not the dick that I'm coming off as.
But if god forbid my hand ever did get cut off or that I ever did end up in the emergency room for any reason at all I can only imagine that the first question they would ask me is "do you have insurance?"

I agree with you jim. What happened in N.Y. was an evil attack by some fucked up towel heads which we overcame as a whole.

As far as Haiti goes,i think mother nature picks areas like that to do a little population control.I know that sounds a bit harsh.sorry if i offend anyone.

And what would you expect to happen when a massive natural disaster hits an excruciatingly impoverished nation?

It isn't the U.S. You can't even make that comparison.

Maybe mother nature will pick your house for a little population control tomorrow. Have some empathy at least...

The exact same thing would happen in the U.S. if a similar disaster happened.

Or do you think that simply because we're American, we would sit back and say: "Well, there's no food, or water, but I will sit here quietly and die because I am civil and really advanced".

Hell no.  Fighting for survival is human nature.

So does Mother Nature just sit around watching certain areas thinking "Alright, that's about enough reproducing in Haiti for a while"? Seriously?

Yep. You gotta put these things in context and realize the lack of infrastructure in Haiti compared to ours...

Omother nature does hit us.. all the time.  Look at hurricane Katrina, our response to that disaster may have been less than optimal but even then we handled the situation.

The difference is, while N.O. wasn't heaven, Port au Prince was about 300 times worse before the quake. How do you expect a nation with little to no infrastructure or resources to respond to something like this? How do you expect neighbors to share when they couldn't feed themselves in the first place?
