Tripping Cats
    #1176752 - 12/29/02 06:33 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

Hi Everybody.

For about as long as i've been a part of the psychedelic experience, I've heard a rumor involving domesticated animals and hand sweat. Or something. That being, "If you pet your (insert type of pet here) while you are tripping, the (insert name of chemical here) is in your hand sweat and it makes the animal TRIP. Whoa man."
This sounds like bullshit to me, but I know someone who is absolutely convinced that her cat tripped balls because the cat was petted by two people on LSD. I for one think that this is kind of silly, as cats are pretty much tripping all the time anyway, but I am very interested in other opinions, especially those of people who have experience with animals on psychedelics due to indirect dosing.

As far as LSD goes it is true that if you put it on your chest or in some sweaty area you will start tripping. But it's not likely that the sweat from your palms would have much LSD in it (imho) because LSD ends up in your spine anyways.

Yeah, it burns holes in your spine and makes you stare into the sun for 6 hours until you melt your retinas. And marijuana causes you to smoke crack and shoot heroin, then run out to rape and murder 12 year old girls....

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon here, but I couldn't resist.

And this one's for the original question.

I seriously doubt that you start excreting LSD like some poisonous toad, I think it has more to do with your altered perceptions and the power of suggestion. Like "wow man, I can predict when the clouds are gonna break apart". Your cat probably isn't tripping, but everything it does seems like it's "under the influence" because you are looking for it.

One time, I mixed a whole bunch of cubensis with some vanilla ice cream and ate about 3/4 of it, and left the bowl on the table. When I went back to pick it up, my cats had licked the bowl clean. I spent most of the night watching them, looking for any changes or odd behavior. I'm not sure how much they got, but one of them started freaking out a little, running back and forth in my living room at high speed for about 30 minutes...

I gave my rat an abort.(pretty big for him) and he munched it up and just chilled. I dont think pets have the proper brain equipment to trip really. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong.

The ppl that are ignorant have all the misinformation. Most of the ppl i know dont do any mind altering substances but yet they have loads of shit to tell me about what i know and do. Its so funny sometimes but at the same time you have to wonder about the persons intelligents. They wern't smart enough to do their own research and willingly accept what the anti drug media wants to say. Gess all you can do is keep repeating yourself and spread the correct info.

well only things that might not make drugs work for cats is maybe there neurotransmitter chemical makeup is alot different than ours. psychadelics would only work on species that had similar neurotransmitters in the brain. from what i can 'deduce' heeh

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Sorry, but you too are a victim of wrong information. LSD is metabolized quickly. 250 mcg never makes it to perspiration, neither does it end up in cerebrospinal fluid. A postage stamp weighs about 60,000 mcg.

Cats, and birds too, are very sensitive to human's psychic states, as well as to changes in physical gait, posturing and other movements. Dogs too, to a certain extent. The first time I took windowpane LSD, and walked into my parent's house - my dog took one look at me and began to shiver with fear. All I said was "Hi Blackie," in what I thought was a normal tone. Sweat carrying LSD is just silly. I don't think you grok how small an average 250 mcg dosage is. BTW, I've seen photos of a cat on LSD. It was terrified of a mouse. This is not fun for creatures without human cortical capabilities. Chimpanzees have a terrible time as well. Only humans, and perhaps dolphins, have shown positive reactions.

Try and experiment, get your cat, dog, rat, whatever and chill with and pretend to be tripping, like sort of stare at the wall for 5 mins then sort of look at yur pet with gripped teeth and sort of stroke it mechanically. That sort of stuff and note whether there are any differences in yuor pets behaviour...

im gonna try it

Elephants too - in the early sixties at Oklahoma U some asswads gave a tremendous dose of acid to an elephant (even relative to it's size - scaled down to human size, it would have been enough to get a few dozen people tripping), and it subsequantly died. I believe they introduced other chemicals into it to try and stop it's convulsions. Even a human unknowingly dosed would be very fraked out...hell, even when you take it on purpose it's pretty freaked out!
