Damn, thats an awesome pipe.

I really don't see the point of the glass tube on the side though... I don't see how it's going to work as an 'ash catcher' if it's sideways like that.

I think it would look better if it was all wood without the glass. But still an awesome pipe. :thumbup:

I hate to say, but love to do it: I pretty much get baked all day and do Art (Rubes, Videos, Paintings, Writings...) but not pipe making!

I'd like to own a pipe crafted by you one day!

It's hard to explain how the ash catcher works, but it does work.

The placement of the inlet and outlet holes are key. The inlet hole is directed into the tube, and the outlet is right beside it, also directed into the tube. This sharp 180 bend in the airway is crucial.

The air current is set up so that the smoke is shot up into the end of the tube, then back down. You can see it create a circular pattern in there.

What happens is that the heavier ash is shot into the tube and sticks to the resinous rounded end, where as the lighter smoke is able to exit through the outlet hole.

I implimented it mostly so that large pieces of ash don't get stuck in the second glass chamber, which i wanted to keep clean.

I've used this ash catcher method many times before, and it works relatively well.

And yea, i also like the look of an all wood pipe, i'm just in a bit of an experimental phase i think, haha.

Ha, i looovee doing art all day. You can just get so into it, and have so much fun. Then at the end of the day, you feel really accomplished because you have this cool new thing infront of you. A good way to live!

and i'll let ya know when i've got them up for sale... soon... sooon...

Ah, I see how it works now... With the seperate inlet and outlet holes...

After taking a closer look at the first pic I can kinda see how the smoke is directed into the glass bulb.

If you're worried about ash getting by the first ash catcher and going into the other tube, why not try putting a screen in the outlet hole?

All wood is cool, but I really like the mixed medium.

I can't help but wonder what it would look like if you mixed a bit of stainless steel or something in there somehow.  Kind of a mix of natural and industrial.
