i'm trying to teach myself guitar on acoustic now, though i already know most beginner chords and some basic finger picking. my goals are to play many system of a down songs and jam. the more i learn the more i realize i should invest in a shitty electric for soad stuff !

You need to start on beginners stuff,I mean REALLY basic. Like maybe picking "bum bum bum bum" in a slow beat. Keep picking on one fret, not even moving your hand or maybe a fret or two A load of people start off by playing the songs they want to play(including myself but that only hinders progress.

I've been playing 6 years or so but because I was picking up bad habits and techniques,it slowed me down and I could have got to where I am now in 3/4 years.

Speed is the VERY LAST THING any beginner should be thinking about. That will come in time when you've got picking down and a technique.

Try this. It's very basic play this until you have it down.

This kind of stuff is essential.

Learning the intro to Reeling In the years today. Some parts I'm not sure of still but I have some of it down.
