wtf, i totally care...your plan sounds awesome.  maybe we'll meet up on the road one day.  i don't mind finding hookups in new places.  best strategy is to light a cig in a town square and wait till approached for a cig.  if you have rollies, they will have to stick around to roll their own and you can get to know pretty quick who might have access to what.

anyway, i'm so stuck on this idea.  the freedom is the big lure for me.  no job, no house, no friends (well, you know what i mean), no worries.

Yeah, there's much more freedom compared to the lives we live now, but one would have to get a job every now and then for however long so they could have gas money and whatnot.

I've also thought about living out in some deep forest, which would be total freedom, but that seems harder than living in a van where you can at least get a temporary job and buy food rather than trying to hunt/gather all of it.

Not to be a dick ive thought about backpacking across USA before. Maybe europe too. it would be nice just not realistic, It cost alot of money to live and travel(unless you steal gas:laugh:). No job is not easy to pull off unless you got like a shit load of money saved.

I would probably just live in a secluded area for months at a time, then go back into the city to re-stock on my supplies.

Backpacking across the USA?

Reminds me of Into The Wild, a great movie. Actually, I just watched it again today. First time I watched it I teared up at the end. I think that movie shows that we can be free and life is beautiful.

I recomend watching it if you haven't. Great movie with a great message.

Poid that sounds like a great idea. And during the time one is living among nature, they can have a garden full of marijuana! That would really let me connect with nature.

And then when going to the city to restock on supplies, they could take some of their harvest and sell it and get money, and use that money to buy food and other supplies.

The problem with going back is that it gets continually harder each time.

After spending months living such a lifestyle, not everyone can just "slot back" into a job to resupply.

The best work that's compatible with this lifestyle IMO is fruit picking and other farm work. Seasonal, spontaneous and contract based. You can do a few picks per year, blast out some 100 hour weeks and earn some big $$.

I would highly advise against trying to go back into the cities and getting a standard job.

i have lots of money saved.  i'm going to spend up to 10k, probably less though, to not only make my van livable...but so comfortable and :awesome: that i want to hang out in it most of the time.  i'm talking battery banks, solar panel, 37'' flatscreen, stove, computer, video game system, satellite tv (possibly), bike and most likely motorcycle trailer.  if i spend time in any one city i'll learn how to get everything (almost) free.  gas, car insurance, and drugs will be my major expenses.  using a motorcycle or bike to explore from VanBase1 would save on gas and allow for camping adventures.

i could live on $50-$100 per week (depending on how many drugs i'm doing :wink: ... likely to bring lots of hash to use and trade.  probably won't hit the road for a couple years because i should really save up a lot more $$ and build my hash stores up.

i hope i can encourage many of you to take this beyond a fantasy.  i'm absolutely going to do this.

http://www.magnet4less.com/product_info.php?products_id=703 ; 224w solar panels.  i'll have to check the ratings on all the appliances i'd wish to install but 3 of those babies seems like a good start.  shit, the panels and the batteries are going to be the most expensive modifications but the most necessary too.

I think you are "confused" if you want a 37" flatscreen in your van.

Part of living that lifestyle for me, is to escape things like that. If you insist on having television/movies/video games ... at least do it modestly.

Having "pimp" possessions makes it a heatscore and less cool!

IMO.

we just have different ideas of necessary comforts, necessary distractions, etc.  Living in a van isn't about one specific philosophy, although i'm sure folk who live in vehicles share quite a few of them.  there is no part of me that is confused about my lifestyle aspirations.  :thumbup:

you don't have to be on a spiritual quest or go without pimp articles to live in a van (down by the river).
