Evangelical Christians
    #11740835 -

I know not all evangelicals believe this way and that its a segment of American christians that think like this and not all christians.

But why do a significant amount of christians in America believe that it is  the end of the world and that we are in the final battle between good and evil? I have heard some christians say that Russia and Iran are evil. And these christians have also said Russia and Iran need to be attacked and they base that on their interpretation of the bible.

DOes anyone here think its dangerous that a large group of the population is basing important political attitudes on their interpretation of bible prophecy?

CHristianity seems to be a very good influence on many peoples lives but why are some christians like this? Didnt Jesus say: "blessed are the peacemakers"? Shouldnt we be trying to make peace with everyone?

It's pure karmic backlash, Americans look at the middle east and say "those barbaric fundamentalists sure turned the cradle of civilization into a shithole! kill 'em all!" and what do we get? Our very own militant anti-modern misogynistic god-bothering cretins.

What does this post have to do with politics?  Either add something substantial to make this a political discussion or it is going to get moved to another forum.

A segment of a religious community is basing their political agendas they support on a interpretation of bible prophecy. That has political ramifications. These people are trying to get America to go to war with Iran.

Russia is most likely the northern Kingdom from Daniel

attacking Russia will only make things worse for America at this point

America needs to put the guns away(except for self defense) and stop trying to go to war with everyone

I believe Mystery Babylon from revelations IS AMERICA!

we are definitely close the end

can you accept it?

What makes that different from any other belief system?  By your criteria every single thread in the deranged dipshit forums would have a place here.

Please provide a link to something that shows;

Because I suspect that your idea of significant might just be around 57.

Here is an article on it for those interested

http://www.lewrockwell.com/barnwell/barnwell73.html

Quote:
Evangelical churches in America today are heavily influenced by popular dispensational theology to some extent. Even churches and pastors that don’t teach pretribulationalism still are influenced by dispensationalism to varying degrees.

Quote:
In 2003, more than a few pastors and influential Christian figures basically said that opposing the Iraq war was opposing God’s end-time plan.

Quote:
Enter the Rev. John Hagee. Hagee is the pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio Texas, where he has 18,000 followers right in his own congregation. He also has a global television ministry and has sold scores of prophecy books over the years.

Quote:
If left up to Hagee, there would be a military strike against Iran today. Since last summer, Hagee has been practically foaming at the mouth for a new war with Iran.

Lew Rockwell?  All those quotes are from Bill Barnwell, not Hagee.  Barnwell also cites this other article from Lew Rockwell.com

Quote:
This specific motivation for the support of Israel is never preached from any fundamentalist pulpit.

Gary North in an article entitled:
Gary North’s column, The Unannounced Reason Behind American Fundamentalism's Support for the State of Israel.

Apparently your sources can't find any quotes either.  Maybe they should supply us all with their secret decoder ring.

Basing any political decisions on religious thought is asking for trouble.

I don't recall any Christians calling for the attack of Russia and Iran..your post seems quite vague. I think the chances of Israel attacking Iran are higher than us attacking them.

I like how you worded that.  Like we've already conceded to the fact that Iran doesn't have to fuck with anybody in order to be attacked/invaded.

That's not what I implied, I worded it that way to say that Judaism is the only religion that i've ever heard call for the attack on Iran, Christians have not.  None that I've ever heard called for Russia's destruction.  He just made that up.

If you haven't heard christians call for the atck of Iran than you probably have not been focused much on the media.

Here is a link to an article that talks about evangelical leaders who are lobbying for an attack on Iran:

Sarah Posner also writes that Hagee is in his own hell because he is secretly a homo:
http://www.alternet.org/story/49229/ted_haggard%27s_hell_on_earth/

You said a "significant amount of Christians" support this and yet all you ever come up with is lunatics who hate him selectively quoting just one guy, Hagee.  That's a funny definition of "significant amount".  Fuuny and creative.

AlterNet, is a liberal activist news source that makes Fox News look mild. This article is years old and does not qualify as top of mind common knowledge source of information (which explains why I might have missed it ), it's entirely editorial and looks like it was written by a blogger.

But it's right on one point.  Like Islam there are portions who call on the destruction of one another but there is not even a swelling of support for a "holy war" from Christians as a whole, or even a large minority (my opinion). Islam is the only major religion that has called on a holy war.  One only has to look at all of the Homicide Bombers an use deductive logic.

Because christianity has been mislead.

"Evil" is a product of perception,  the perception that it is not "god's" "will."

Answer me this;  If Christianity is supposed to be a monotheistic religion, then how does "satan" have power over god?

The answer is;  "satan" must be a part of "god." Evil is part of "god" or else it would not exist.

Thus, to fight evil is to fight god.  Christianity was supposed to be about accepting evil and learning to love man and the creator regardless... or something
