How many of you post with a mask?
    #11723545 -

I don't know about any of you, but what I post on this forum, unless it is a joke, is true to how I live.  Some people like to play be budda game and then turn around and have all sorts of arbitrary wants and personality quirks.  I live to eliminate these things in myself, and whether or not you agree with that goal is irrelevant.  My point is, I don't front.  Do you?

If we did, would we want to admit it?

The only mask I post with is one of polite censorship. I know if I articulate my thoughts exactly I'll offend and probably receive a ban.

always masking
but I use the word differently
every expression is a mask
shifts every 3 seconds or so to another related one

How meager then.:satansmoking:

Other than agreeing with Cameron I don't wear any mask, here or anywhere.

i go with with what i feel
i don't try to force some attitude
that is a mask in itself
not into head games, trolls or negative attitudes tho
tho i do possess some of these traits at times, but to overcome this more self reflection could be of use.

I've often found it's the really big phonies that claim to never wear the mask.

the question is... which mask would you like to use now?
so many change masks so frequently... two faces, liars, betrayers.
the big phonies are the ones who switch masks frequently, are irritable, cranky, emotional and prone to being a general asshole.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

And of course you are being completely subjective. IMO everyone is all of those things to some degree. Whether they have what it takes to admit that is another matter.

A large anonymous community can be a ego refiner when being completely honest with yourself, less fear of stigmas as from say people that really know you. Its all about knowing how to you use these ego refiners for good.

I try to be honest for the most part. I have never told any people in my life things I have said on here.

But just like drugs, it can get too comfortable and you might end up sharing too much or exaggerating for the sake of trying to speak through a mask and felt like you were really heard.  :mfdoom:

So for the most part I express how I live and be honest with myself on here, but I've slipped up before.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.

I just try to do what feels right and good. :whacker:

i agree with red that every expression is a mask

what i think might be important is the intention behind the mask... when there appears to be no specific conscious intention we consider that as 'being yourself' or 'being authentic', however these masks are still subject to underlying subconscious intentions (desires, relationship to the other person, mood, etc). not all consciously intentional masks are 'bad' as is commonly asserted imo (i.e. he's being fake! he's never 'himself'). like mentioned above, having a mask involving intentional politeness might be beneficial, or a mask created in part from the conscious intention to help someone.

there really is no consistent 'self' to be 'true' to. masks are always changing and related to the situation (i.e.- one likely acts different to children than to parents than to a lover). observing your actions can help you see what might contribute to the creation of the mask you're using (i.e. the desire to impress, hide faults, etc) but i think it's impossible to express anything without one. that said, i'd say the conscious intention i usually put into masks on here is to fit my responses to the theme of the forum, that is philosophy etc... so i tend to think in a more methodical way (on some levels) than a talk with a friend over coffee (unless the conversation is particularly philosophical).

If your face is totally relaxed does that count as an expression, or no expression?

It's an expression of relaxation.

it may be consciously experienced as being totally relaxed

but there's a lot at play under the surface making up each moment

i think only those who know how to cease to exist can be said to transcend masks - but good luck getting a picture of it

What if I go snow plowing and my face goes numb as shit, so I can't even move it if I want to?  Is that an expression?

Why not kill yourself. That should help with your expression problems.
