Got a new ID book
    #1168993 - 12/25/02 05:08 AM (21 years, 3 months ago)

I actualy recieved two mushroom ID books for christmas. I got the Audubon Field Guide and the "Smithsonian Handbooks Mushrooms."

I'd have to say that the Smithsonian Handbooks book is much better. The pictures are very very nice, the descriptions are good, it tells print color and what color the mushroom briuses. Very complete guide... I like. The only thing that its not too specific on is the range of where the mushroom grows, but thats alright I guess. I'm just about to order Mushrooms Demystified... after that I'll be set to tackle any ID question.

Cool!  I got my first ID book for my birthday last year... It's "Peterson's Field Guide to Mushrooms."  Not that great, but at least it's something!

From what I've read on here, though, I do plan to get Mushrooms Demystified sometime soon!

Merry Christmas!

I got the Audubon Field Guide to north America. The book is'nt too bad but is not all inclusive. It does not even have Azures listed  I have made some ID' s with it however. It's better to have a few books to compair with anyway.

There is a good FAQ about mushroom hunting books here at the shroomery...maybe try looking in there?

Hey Gumby, you will be extremely impressed if you get Arora's book...its pretty amazing!

Mainly the colder parts of europe :-(
sorry about that. But the italians are
into mushroom hunting so it could be worth
searching for an italian book. That may be more
helpful in your area.Good luck m8
