can anyone suggest a good book for ID'ing wild mushrooms?
is there an industry standard, similar to TMC?
maybe something west coast specific, maybe not.
we just had rain this week and a couple days of great sunshine so I'm thinking about going hiking with my g/f tommorrow and seeing what we can find locally.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try "Mushrooms of North America" by Orson K. Miller, Jr. Good general guide with great photos. Includes a full key to major groups of fungi along with 71 keys to the families, genera, and species. Very well cross-referenced with each description having its own number and each number referring to its proper photo. Also includes positive chemical reactions, i.e. reactions in Melzer's reagent, bitter tastes, etc. Published by E.P. Dutton

Yeah, Mushrooms Demystified is pretty much the bible for mushroom hunters. Check that one out.

I'll go along with Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora. It's not specific to the west coast, but the emphasis is on that area (David Arora is from California).
