indiana find, Need ID
    #1477841 - 04/21/03 12:34 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

hey shroomites,

I found a mushroom, in a pile a horse dung and straw in Indiana. It doesn't seem to be active, because it didn't blue. I took a spore print and the print was black. The stem was white as snow, and the cap was a blueish to gray. The gills were attached and the cap sizes are about 1 inch diameter.  The stems have like a fur or ruff surface on them and the cap were wet, or a shiny smooth.

I hope this is enough info to get ID.  If needed, I might be able to supply a picture.  I also looked in the mushroom ID books and I couldn't find the species.

thanks peace

maybe pann subbs. if you can go back try bruising the base of the stem where it meets the mycellium if your going to see bruising on this species thats where it will be. also look in the hunting faq here for pics of pann subbs and a good descript. peace

Reason I wouldnt say a Pan. subbalteatus is due to the fact it has a white stem.

It could point to a Coprinus, an inky cap.

I am from lafayette. I go to purdue.

I am from Crown Point. I know places to hunt up north of indiana. there are cow pastures right by my old high school and I knew people that would hunt there.

If anybody lives around me, pm for a hunting. I am going to go in a couple weeks. I got about 5 so far. the field we will hunt in isn't that big, so like a few more and it would be enough.

peace
