How are the new Amsterdam tourist laws working out?

Wiccan's thread made me think of this.  Remember recently, when Amsterdam cut off their nose to spite their face and banned tourists from buying pot and other drugs at coffee shops during a world-wide economic crisis?  Does anyone know how that's working out?

wtf, when did that happen? i wanna go there one day and smoke weed... legally!

bit stupid if you ask me, cos lets face it; a high percentage of tourists only want to go there for one thing. ah well, everyone should come to nimbin now!

I don't think that is true. They just banned mushrooms for everyone. Even for locals. And from a government standpoint that is working out just fine since the number of mushroom related incidents have apparently dropped by something like 70%.
However. It was mostly tourists who got into trouble from taking shrooms as they would do it in public areas. They'd freak out or something and then an ambulance would be called.

I don't think that's what happened at all. They wanted to make some places members only but nothings been finalised yet,I believe.

I was over there a month ago and the place was business as usual.

Any laws like you said that might come in would never ever be enforced properly. It would just be for show more than anything else.

No employees in any coffee shop would ask you anything about if you're a tourist or not. How could it be proven anyway,you could just say you moved there and are looking for work.

Do not worry about Amsterdam.

I don't think any laws were passed,not in Amsterdam anyway,I think some other part of Holland.

They are not stupid enough to sabotage their economy by banning tourists from coffee shops.

A lot of the stand out coffee shops are very touristy,made to attract them with neon signs and the like. The more low key ones are more local ones,a lot quieter.

It will stay business as usual.:thumbup:

They need the weed tourism.

There's no fingers crossed about it,seriously.

The place is so laid back,all the people who rely on tourists would be out of work,leaving a huge dent in their economy.

I'll recant if I'm wrong but I'm SURE nothing will happen regarding that. They still sell truffles in shops for god sake. They are no different to mushrooms.

Sorry guys.  Last I heard, I thought they were going to officially stop tourists from buying weed.  I was just hoping that they were struggling economically because of that.
