That's what Schopenhauer says, when we imagine things, such as imagining an objective world, we become aware that we're imagining it.

The conclusion he draws is that we are not imagining and objective world, but we are imagining ourselves imagining it.

I know that's topsy turvy, but the question is whether he was right or took too large a leap in his reasoning.

The difference is the second one is a bit more thorough in its conceptualization. Although I would say they are the same starting point, unless starting point 1 was posited by a SCHIZO!!!!
