Look what I built tonight.....I doubt you'll care..

Its a fireplace mantle shelf. I built it for my Gf's mom for christmas. It's made from mahogany, first time I've built one of these I usually build houses, or garages. I am going to stain it tomorrow, It probably looks kinda plain now. My gf is very happy, the one her mom wanted was $350 I only have about 100 rapped up into this after it is stained. And you can't tell the differnce.

There is a pretty bad snow storm headed my way so I will have plenty of time to sand and stain. Tomorrow I'll post finished pics when its done.

I'm sure that nobody cares but I wanted to share it with someone. Everyone around me is sleeping its 4:20 am.

It looks like 4 pieces of wood glued together. Your not going to do any routering or shaping?

Not to be nitpicker - but won't the different shades of wood stain differently? Making it look a bit strange?

Cool job though.. I like building things like that :smile:_

It's all mitered I thought about routing it out but my routing skills are limited.

I do lots of home projects too...

You shoulda took a picture after it was stained and hung.  Then people who say it looks sweet. kinda looks like 4 boards sitting on a table when u first look!

I am going to secure a 2x4 to the wall then secure it to the 2x4. Might putty would work to, RIP Billy Mays!!!

It was actually like 7 pieces it like 4 -6'and a few smaller pieces.

I wish I knew how to work with wood, I'm jealous. A few people in my family are fairly adept at constructing chairs and bookcases and whatnot.
