It's all good guys, just please keep any trade/vendor/source discussion to PMs or emails so that I don't have to see em :yesnod:

I will issue citations/bans if I must, but I really would rather not, SO please stick to the rules.

IMO, there is no reason to collect plants from the wild at all, especially if you are not qualified to do so. You should be acquiring seed and sowing them. That is what these seed companies are for, to get the species out there without depleting a natural resource.

Even if the land is owned privately and the plants are sold, I wouldn't buy them as it encourages these plants to become commodities in the eyes of people. This leads to poaching of wild species from public land. We are experiencing a similar phenomenon here in Australia through the trade of Grass Trees, Xanthorrhoea sp.

Propagate from seed, it is the only way to maintain these plants for future generations to enjoy in the wild, not Zoos or Botanical Gardens.

There's also a distinction to be made between an empty lot and some spot that's in imminent danger from bulldozing/relandscaping.  Some plants are going to be destroyed rather than collected and it's better to just take them imo.  I agree with karode, though, seeing as I doubt certain people's ability to intelligently practice conservation.

I would take them and move them to a park where they will be available for everyone to see and not just my friends, family, and I.
