how many culture dowels to Qrt?

hello all... i have some live Oyster dowels/plugs and would like to inoculate half filled quarts of composted Hpoo. what would be a optimum number of dowels per jar? thx Imorph

depends on how long you want to wait.
I'd say 10 colonized dowels would colonize the Hpoo in a week...maybe even 5.
1/2 a quart...a pint...isn't that much

thx you RPV, finally someone who has tried this.  so roughly 10 dowels for 16 oz that's about 5 per cup/8oz of Hpoo....Ummm that's that quite a few for complete colonization in a week. i guess though it's necessary to outrun contams  or take forever!

maybe i should go to cardboard 1st  then to the Hpoo ?
if you know ...is it possible to re-use the dowels after removing the colonized Hpoo?      thx again, Imorph

i'd say 5 dowels would do it just fine
I'm sure you could reuse them too.
See, once you have spawn you can treat it how ya like. With respect of course...
because
It's the sterile part of getting the spawn prepared that's tricky.
People have cased outdoors and had no problems..
When your inserting the dowels into the HCompost you want to be STERILE
So i'd imagine getting the dowels out of the spawn jar once used is okay.
