Re: Cigarette are ADDICTIVE! [Re: Gumby]

i quit using the gum, but then (due to stress) resumed smoking three weeks later.

i need to quit as i really cant afford to be smoking but i'm in school and I know that if i quit while in school i wont be very functional for a week or so and just be agitated and unfocused so i'm gunna try to quit again (for good, or until I find a job) over the semester break:undecided:

Oh, yeah. You'll save money in the long run. My cost has gone down from $200/mo for cigs to $40/mo for e-liquid and spare parts.

However, you will find that you need to buy extra atomizers (heating-elements), as they only last about a month on average. Extra batteries are also a good idea. I'd figure making your initial investment more like $140 (including fluid).

I've tried a number of models/suppliers and I stand by my recommendation in the above post. That outfit also supplies the best e-liquid I've found (there's some really shitty stuff out there). I prefer their Marlboro or Camel flavors (although, they really don't taste like that).

I still enjoy about two real cigarettes a day, but that's down a hell of a lot from the 40 cigs a day I used to smoke... In the end, I think it was a good move... My smoker's cough has subsided, and I haven't had a cold in almost a year-and-a-half [knock wood]. They say propylene glycol has an anti-viral quality, but I think it was just getting all those big-tobacco chemicals out of my system...

Individual results may vary, but it's been a good move for me...

EDIT: And I can smoke in bars again! Most people are cool with it -- especially, if you go with black with a blue light (so it doesn't look anything like a cigarette), and if they're not cool with it, it's really easy to vaporize in a stealthy manner, so they don't even know you're getting your fix...

I agree with routine! Wake up, after every time I eat and before I go to bed. Also they taste like shit but can't shake the urge.

Great posts so far!
Thank you.

I smoke whenever I feel like it pretty much which varies from 20 in one day to 0 for 2 weeks.
I just like the buzz it gives me, and the feeling of the smoke in my throat/lungs.
I also like to light up when other people are.
I can tell anyone seriously that I am not addicted to cigarettes, and I've been smoking for almost a year.
I also smoke different kinds/brands all the time.

Definitely did not say or mean to imply that I won't get addicted, but I mean, I'll just try to keep doing what I'm doing now and hopefully I can keep this pace.

I smoke and have been for almost three years now.  I smoke more for the pleasure; there is the stress relief that I take advantage of, and I suppose I am starting to get 'addicted'.  I don't know, there's just something enjoyable about going out back and enjoying a smoke by yourself with good tunes.

Plus I've made it into a routine/habit.  After waking up, eating, toking, driving, before going to bed.  It doesn't help when all your friends and co-workers smoke either, but I'm not planning on quitting yet.

I actually just began to realize today that I need to quit. For some reason cigarettes feel even worse for me than they seem to for regular people. I barely smoke more than 5 a day and it effects me like it was a pack a day. I used to smoke for the nice relaxing buzz, but I just don't get that buzz anymore. It just feels gross when I smoke and without the effect, its far from relaxing; I don't really see any point in continuing to smoke so I'll probably finish my current pack and go cold turkey though. I've tried cutting down to like 1 a day so I still get the effect, but at this point I would have to take a "tolerance break" (LOL) to get the effect even if I did only do one a day. Since I would have to go cold turkey anyway, I probably should just quit all together. Hopefully I can still smoke socially when I'm drinking or tripping (I love smoking when tripping), but I think I'm done buying any for myself.

Bingo.

In fact, outside of cigarette form, nicotine isn't really enjoyable or pleasurable.

There hasn't been a single, double blind study where non-smokers were given nicotine in non-cigarette form, and the participants have rated it as pleasurable, or indicated they would like it again.

word. i have a weird smoking pattern that kinda goes along with this feeling. I'll smoke for a couple monthes and then start feeling like you do now so i'll quit. then a month into quitting i end up having a cigarette and i LOVE them again for like 3-4 monthes and then start feeling like they're gross and give me headaches and no buzz so i quit again for a month or so and then start again!

i think i might be about to quit again as i just cant take how gross cigarettes are to me right now

i used to smoke a pack a day. i'd say it's more psychological than anything. when you get used to smoking at predesignated times or before activities it gets pretty ingrained psychologically. and when you don't, you start to get anxious or jittery, or at least i did. some times you just crave a smoke though.

i quit cigarettes because it was affecting my health, horribly. but i ended quitting cold turkey fairly easily after smoking my last bits of tobacco and relapsing with a pack or two. i just abstained from buying anymore tobacco. the key is to replace the time you'd spend smoking with other activities.

anyway i quit for around 3 months and could've probably gone on indefinitely beside the occasional social smoke, but got interested in cigars from a previous experience smoking a cuban that was fucking tasty as hell. as a kid i've always loved the smell of good tobacco and car exhaust- i feel they have similar qualities believe it or not lol- despite social views on tobacco. one of the most prominant reasons for my smoking was taste, so the progression was natural. now my cigar use is mostly voluntary, though addiction still plays a small role. i feel confident though that i would be able to quit anytime i want- but that's what they all say, huh?

Papaver you talked me into it. I'm spending almost $250 a month on a pack a day habit(fucking tri-state area prices!)

If I could drop it down to $20 (half of your 2 pack a day habit) that would be fucking amazing. I also have started to develop a smoker's cough and I've noticed that when I sing my range is affect because I can't hit the high notes anymore. Since I've tried quitting about 5 times unsuccessfully, I might as well find a healthier, less expensive alternative until I am done with college and can properly quit.

Glad I could help. I would recommend the following starter kit (see link below), as well as an extra atomizer or two, and an extra battery or two. I would also get 5-10 empty black cartridges (for refilling), and a 30ml jar of their e-liquid (I would suggest M/boro or Camel flavor and 24mg or 36mg strength).

On the extra battery, I would get an automatic battery. For some reason their starter kit now comes with two manual batteries, where they used to give you one of each type. The manuals are great if your going somewhere with loud noise like a club (as the automatics can turn on in your pocket from loud noise), but I generally prefer the simplicity of the automatic batteries, so I don't have to operate a switch. So I would get at least one extra automatic battery to try out.

Like I said in my other post, I've tried several different types of e-cigs, and this is my favorite model. Many of the other have been wastes of money because they don't provide enough vapor to create a true smoking-like experience. I also like this company's e-liquid, and they ship from Florida (usually in the 3-4 days to the west coast).

Another thing you'll find interesting is the way you smoke will change. Because you can take it out of your pocket, take a hit or two, and then drop it back in your pocket. You'll no longer be locked into a ten minute smoking session, which is kinda nice.

Here's a video on that model...

Smoked a pack a day for about two years. A month and a half ago I was standing outside, in my driveway, smoking my morning cig. I knew I had no more and I really didn't have the money to go buy another pack. I thought, "Hmm, well I think this is gonna be it. This will be my last one."

I didn't even finish that cigarette and I haven't had one since.

I came to realize that through my addiction to smoking, I was only trying to reach a state of contentness that people who don't smoke feel 24/7. The only reason I was compelled to smoke was to reach a state where I didn't have the urge to do it. But the more I smoked, the more I would crave later on.

I smoked about half a pack a day for seven years. Also kept a caffeine addiction going alongside, and usually took them both together.

So, I upped the caffiene, had nearly no nicotine withdrawl quitting while doing so, and now am a very happy and energetic four-pot a day coffee addict.
