Yes, I am a smoker and lung cancer will soon be in my future if it is not already. And still I can not put the damn things down!
If you do smoke, why?
If you quit smoking what was your reason?
And if anyone has successfully quit how did you do it? (cold turkey, the patch ect...)

you have to physically and mentally be ready to quit. eventually, after smoking for years, i got to the point where i was not getting pleasure from smoking cigarettes and it was becoming annoying. its like i would smoke a cigarette but there was absolutely no pleasure and it even started to taste bad. i quit cold turkey at that point after trying to quit using the patch 3 times before.

Yes they cause cancer, idk how to stop I don't smoke em. I use cigarillos filled with green stuff.

I highly question nicotine as an 'addictive' substance. I've smoked two cigarettes a week for months and have never done them because I had an 'urge' to do so, simply because of stress. I've had a bunch of pre-rolled cigarettes right next to me on my desk here and they've been there for over a week now. I've gone months in between cigarettes, and sometimes do a few a day and have no need to try another one for weeks later.

Cloves are about 80% tobacco.

And yeah, I smoke. Sometimes I'll do it out of stress, but it's mainly the psychological habit of smoking that I can't shake. Walking to class? Have a cigarette. Drinking a beer? Have a cigarette. Just woke up? Have a cigarette. I just it's just become part of a routine.

One thing that makes it hard to quit is when all of your drinking buddies are smokers. You're at the bar having a drink and one person decides to go out for a smoke... So then all the people go out for a smoke and you're left there like "uh wut?" Yeah you could go outside, but you know you're gonna have one if you do.

I've tried to quit a few times in the past and my longest success was about a month before I caved. Once I'm finally done with college I think it's going to be a lot easier to quit due to the change in lifestyle and type of people I'm surrounded by.

I don't smoke cigs anymore.  I occasionally smoke pipe tobacco when I feel like having a little introspective time in my back yard.

I wish I could get the paper wrapped ones instead of the tobacco ones.  At least there is a djarum black dealer on my campus.

Cigarettes were for me:

- A morning boost
- A nice nerve settling drug that balanced out stimulants
- Went great will alchohol (even though I've quit, for the most part, when I drink for a weekend or more I smoke while I drink)

I've slowed down a lot on cigarettes
I used to smoke a pack a day, I'm down to maybe 2 a day now
I haven't smoked a single one today though so far

what led me to the decision to quit was when my friends, whose father is a respiratory doctor,
told me how he tells him all the time how smoking is horrible for your lungs and heart
apparently the average smoker has a larger heart due to the sped up heart rate
which happens because after smoking for so long ones lungs shrink in size
like a cold peñor

after that I basically told myself to quit, or slowdown at least

Cigs are addictive as hell! I gave 'em up about two years ago. I just went cold turkey - they say that's the best way.

i picked addictiveness but its actually a cross between stress and the addiction they work hand in hand.

That because there is a certain threshold you have to cross before nicotine becomes physically addictive, and two cigarettes a week is pretty far from it... :smirk:

To the OP, if you're really worried about it, and are looking for a way to stop smoking, you might want to try an e-cigarette. I've tried a number of models and the one I like is the TECC Titan 510 from this place:

It hits hard, so it's an ideal replacement for a regular smoker.

I'm not looking to quite, and I use the e-cigarette to save money and to smoke indoors, but I can see how it would be easy to taper-off and quite once one changes over to an e-cig...

Pappy you'd say it's definitely worth the $80 for the full kit? I've been playing with the idea of buying one of these for a few months. I don't realize that I smell like a god damn ash tray until I go to my parents house which is completely smoke free. Disgusting, I'd like to eliminate that.
