yes but this one has already started to recover from birthing.. no need to stress it out.. roll it after the first flush..

its good advice..

i highly doubt rolling it in verm would stress it out.

if you are really stressed for an answer you can gently poke a part of it with a clean utensil(as a last resort!!!)

dont poke it:shrug::facepalm: that wont prove anything

its mycelium cakes usually do this right after birthing before the first flush fluffy mycellium will come up sometimes due to really high RH or not enough FAE or the cake just hasnt decided it wants to fuit yet.. its fine dont worry the only thing i would suggest is to
roll it in verm.. if you are uncertain that your verm is clean bake it in the oven @ 350 for and hour or so or at least nuke it in the microwave... a verm roll will greatly improve your results!

i wasn't advocating poking it... but it would turn blue if it was mycellium.and every once in a wile you get those people that just keep asking cuz they just dont want to think its fine.call me dumb but thats how i see it. hence the (last resort!)

i didnt call u dumb.. and poking the cake wont always make it bruise blue.

the cake is starting to form what will be pins.. rolling now will destroy them. also the dry verm will draw moisture away from the cake.. the reason you roll directly after dunk is that there is plenty of excess moisture on the surface of the cake for the verm to stick to..

he could wet the cake then roll but that will still destroy the beginnings of the knots that are forming and it will have to start over.

letting this cake fruit as is then dunking and rolling is the best option in my opinion.

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

there are no pins and those growths aren't primordial knots.

its myc. knots are tiny bumps not large odd shaped bubbles of fluffy myc..

i agree rolling after the first flush is fine.. but if there are no pins yet rolling the cake or at least a scoop of verm on the top will prove benificial.

whats a scoop of dry verm gonna do?

dry the top of the cake thats what..

if the RH in that FC is right, there is no reason to even roll  in the first place.. rolling is exactly like casing, it helps to create a micro environment with a high RH to help enduce pinning.

if the RH in the FC is where it needs to be, then what id the micro environment good for?

FYI i dont case my tubs either..

yeah man you wet the scoop of verm sorry i forgot to add that.

it hold moisture to the cake... come on man, im not trying to start anything here but it seems like you are being a little thick headed..

ive been doing cakes for awhile now ive fruited naked cakes and ones rolled in verm. i like to add a scoop of verm to the top of the cake then moisten it with the mist bottle.. i guess its all personal preference but IME ones with a little help from the verm to retain moisture outperform naked cakes 10-1.

OP if you have 2 cakes in there use one to follow my advice and use one to follow slimz and report results back here.

i agree that the first flush will be better with verm, but its not needed and at this point, why bother.. the second flush will be amazing if he leaves it alone now..

but again i guess that it is a personal preference..

Nexus, it's been dunked, but not rolled. Is it ok to roll at this point (can I just pour some verm straight onto the cake without having to take it out?)

You could leave it as is but be sure to mist regularly and FAE.

What I would do is fill a bowl with cold tap water and another with some clean verm. Place the cake in the water for a minute or so then roll it in the verm till theres a nice coating and place it back in the FC. Give it a few minutes then mist it until it sparkles with water. Don't soak it. You want the verm there to keep the cake at the proper RH.

This may set it back a few days but it should perform better in the long run.

Three to six times a day, fan, then mist, then fan again. Don't soak the cakes but keep them moist.

Direct fanning evaporates some of the moisture which triggers pinning.

Do this and it should be fine. :imo:

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think what I'm going to do is add some moistened and clean(ed) verm to the cake (without taking it out, which I don't want to do at this point - call me skittish), and I'll increase both the FAE & misting. The humidity has been stable at 88%.

Ah, I thought it was supposed to be between 85 & 95%. I'll moisten the perlite a bit to bring it up.
