These are P.c.Burma, from Sporeworks syringes ; soon to be from my own prints.

I used 1pt Ball wide mouth glass jars (bought at Meijer really cheap), organic rye berries from Whole Foods at .99/Lb.  I try to use all organic materials and try to follow organic practices as much as I know how.  Right down to distilled water from my own distiller.

I soak the berries for 24 hours in room temperature water.  I rinse very thoroughly both before and after the soak.  I also put a ‘Coffee Bomb’ in the soak; my own little gimmick that does help.  My ‘Coffee Bomb’ is a good handful of used decaf coffee grounds from Caribou coffee wrapped in a double layer of cheese cloth sitting in the soak with the berries.  After the soak and second rinse I fill the pot with water to a level that is approximately twice the amount of rye berries then bring it to a slow simmer.  I simmer for 30-40 minutes (without the coffee bomb).  Sorry RR.  I then rinse in room temperature or cold water to stop the cooking abruptly.  I then drain again, thoroughly.  Rinse again.  I then loaded the jars to just about 2/3’s full.

For the lids I use those plastic re-useable lids (a onetime buy from Target for a couple bucks a package).  The lids have four 1/8th” holes for inoculation, but I rarely use those holes.  They also have one big ½” hole in the center for gas exchange.  Under the lids are those terribly expensive but worth every penny, synthetic disk filters I bought at Myco Supply .  Actually I bought them at a non-Shroomery vendor but for the sake of argument let’s just say Myco-Supply.  They are way cheaper elsewhere.    They were still expensive but I’ve re-used them so many times now they have paid for themselves ten times over.

I PC’d the jars for 90 minutes at 15psi.  I use an AA925.  I let them cool to room temperature inside the cooker.  When they are ready I moved them directly to the glove box.

I inoculated the jars with the Sporeworks syringes inside my home made glove box (still air box if you’re anal).  That is a 96qt tub from Meijer with two arm holes.  I use tyvek sleeves and nitrile gloves all cleaned with alcohol during inoculation.  The glove box was prepped with Oust and alcohol 30 minutes prior to use.  I have all my inoculation supplies cleaned and inside the glove box when I am ready to go.  For inoculation I simply open the jars and squirt between 2-4cc into each jar evenly dispersing the spore solution around the jars sides.

I then let them percolate for a few weeks in a cardboard box on a shelf in my grow room until 100% colonized.  I check them every other day for my own lack of patience.    Then I split them around several experimental ‘trays' each of which is using different mixes some bulk some cased, some just goofy ideas. 

The ones you see in the pictures are cased with 50% verm 50 organic seed starter both from True Value Hardware.  A good helping of food grade diatomaceous earth for PH and water as needed.  That batch was mixed all by eye so I can’t tell you my exact measurements.  Bad habit of mine I guess.  But it works for me as you can see.

Actually mine is only about 2/3's the rest is pure calcium.  This way it doesn't clump up during harvest. 

The seed starter is basiczally Organic Jiffy mix just not the brand Jiffy.  You can get it at Home Depot and Lowes.  It's only a few pennies more then jiffy and works better.  It also clumps less and requires less buffering.  It also has fewer BIG twigs and things.  So it's easier to work with.

Damn Harley and the expenses...the reason I'm still ridin' an '86 650 Suzuki! Nice ride but I've been eyeballin' a Softail Custom. A lot of saving to do!

Check out some of the links in my sig too.  There are some fatty's there.

This particular one is 50/50 medium verm organic jiffy.  The tray is like this:
Bottom - 1/2"course and fine verm mixed and layered on the bottom
Second - 1/2" 50/50 with decaf coffee grounds
Third - 1/2" or more spawn 'rye berries' (Don’t laugh but I also mix the spawn with some of the casing before layering it in) this helps but is messy.
Top - 1/2" 50/50 without the coffee.  Misted daily 4 or 8 times because the trays cover a lot of the perlite.

Third flush.  It was soaked between flush one and two and some more verm was sproinkled on then.

The trays are pretty shallow so I didn't have much to work with.  These are all experiments for me.

My thoughts are that mixing the casing mix a bit with the rye makes the rye work harder to re-establish itself and then break through to start fruiting.  So what seems to be happening is the fruits are that much heartier due to more colonization and having to fight for light.  It's kind of like a cross between bulk and case.  I guess.  But I'm just an amateur hobbyist.
