Update:

Okay so I finally arrived home last night. Called the sheriff's office this morning and gave them my fax to send a copy of the police report. Spoke with an auto shop that has seviced my father for more than 10 years to get an honest opinion on the matter, and they're saying 1. taking apart my engine to diagnose an overheating problem was completely unnecessary 2. taking my engine apart without quoting me on the price to put it back together beforehand is plain wrong and 3. $1000 to replace a timing belt is way overcharged, they quoted a price of around $400.

I'm ready to call the magistrates office to begin filing a civic law suit against the business that currently still has my car, but there's one major concern.

I'm worried that the moment he finds out that there's a report on him, that he may do something to severely damage my car + the longer my car is on his property, the more he can charge me for storage. I want to get my car towed off his property. Is this something the police can assist me with, or do I actually have to contact a private towing company down there and order them to take my car from his shop? I might be able to contact some people from the motel I stayed at, if it would be okay to tow my car onto their property in the meantime while I get this matter to court.

Main thing is to get my car out of his shop. It shouldn't be there. We're canceling the insurance right now.

No, I dropped the case. Came to the conclusion that the money and effort to get the car back and up and running isn't worth its value. I'm driving another car which I am going to end up buying at a good price, less than what the repairs and towing costs for my old one would've been.

It's sad but I walked away with a worthwhile lesson.

That is true, but I can't believe that the law didn't help him out especially when they had problems with this guy before.

It just sucks that people take advantage of folk like this douche did. Sad sad society we're in.
