Cost for replacing thermostat and housing?
    #11276621 - 10/19/09 01:18 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Anyone know a rough figure for replacement of thermostat housing and thermostat on an 04 Mazda3?  Just checking so I don't get completely screwed.

Is this something I could have done myself?

the housing and thermostat are unitized and under $50, it's an easy
process to change it, simple hand tools and under an hour in labor,
the tools and parts would cost less than a shop and you'd have the
tools for future use

How do they get away with this?

Hmmm, what happens when I refuse to pay and just take my car?  Anything criminal or just financial?

$100/hour and say 50% of that maintains the shop so $50/hour is $100000/year, do mechanics actually make that much?

I imagine you could if you were skilled enough.  If you run a decent garage (owning it and being a mech), you could easily pull half a mill a year.
