NS liberty cap find?
    #11174168 -

Went hunting in a nearby field recently found 20 mushrooms and i need help identifying mushrooms.

I was hunting for liberty caps however i have found what looks to be like several species of mushrooms. I picked every mushroom i found hoping atleast one species is the one im looking for (i don't have any intentions of eating any of them until i know for sure).

Mushroom #1
3
Habitat: field with fresh cow patties. found growing in the grass.
Gills: brown
Stem: 5-5.5cm, bare, solid, thin, brown at the top fading at the bottom.
Cap: 1-1.5cm, white, vertical lines along the bottom, conical, small nipple at top.
http://

Mushroom #2
3 found
Habitat: same field but found directly on the cow patty
gills: grey
Stem: 2-3cm, bare, yellow buff, thin, possible line close to the top left, from the veil i might be just be dirt though
Cap: 1cm diameter, same colour as the stem, conical, nipple at the top
note: They were really sticky when they were wet

Mushroom #3
2 found
Habitat: same field in the grass
Gills: dark grey,
stem: 4 and 6cm, white (by the time i typed this it dried and is now yellow), bare, thin
Cap: 1cm in diameter, yellow, very conical, nipple at the top

Mushroom #4
3 found
Habitat: same field, in the grass
Gills: cinnamon
Stem: 3-5cm, bare, thin, also cinnamon
cap: 1cm, also cinnamon, nipple at the top
note: I'm planning on throwing these out because im pretty sure they are, conocybe tenera which i have read is deadly, but if anyone has any other thoughts on these particular three mushrooms i'd be happy to hear about it.

Mushroom #5
4 found
Habitat: the same as the last
Gills: light brown
stem: 5cm, bare, thin, dull white fading to brown
Cap: .5-1cm, light brown, convex, round no nipple

Mushroom #6
2 found
These two mushrooms are probably the same mushrooms as #5 however, their caps are more pointy and almost have a nipple.

Mushroom #7
1 found
Habitat: grass in the same field
Gills: brownish-grey
Stem: yellow, thin, 5cm
Cap: 1cm in diameter

Mushroom #8
2 found
these two best resemble a liberty cap to me
Gills: grey
Stem: 2cm, thin, brown,
Cap: brownish grey, 1 cm, conical, with a nipple at the top

Thats FINALLY all of them. im gonna be posting pictures of the mushrooms spore prints shortly to help with anyone interested in identifying these mushrooms.

Anyone who's reading may be wondering why i picked mushrooms i wasn't sure about. The answer, to document them and to know exactly what the libs around NS look like because im pretty sure they can look pretty different depending on where they are.

Thanks for the help, and i know some of the pics were blurry but they should help give you a general idea of what mushroom it is.

Also Sorry for the long post Just really dont want to eat the wrong 'shroom.

Yeah... just my opinion but those first pics aren't Libs!...I'm in NS too though... I've hunted a lot of different places around here and would like too hear others experiences in the area! I'm located in halifax but have traveled many different locations!... How has everyones season been so far?... mines documented in Liberty Cap/P.Semilanceata 2009 Season (In your Location).... It's good so far but I'm just waiting for that big wave to hit, it usually occurs a couple weeks in around here! anyway here one of my favorite little patches here in NS

Gotta love how you can spend your entire day hunting a mushroom when It's been in front of your face the whole time. One rule to hunting mushrooms... Don't overthink the locations. :P

Yeah too true... I've searched huge fields and found nothing only to return to the camp I was staying at and find them on the side of the driveway! lol other times I've walked a field for hours and then spotted them just as I was about to leave.... This usually happens at the first of the season... Once I see that 1st one I get my "Mush Eyes" and I'm good to go!

I took a couple buddies out today hunting and was showing them how to identify with my books....I took them to some waxy caps I know of, and said, "here, get down low, and look through this brush, let your mush eyes come to you and you will see them....once you get your mush eyes you start seeing them all over" haha.

Mushroom vision is a good one too

Too bad i dont have the Cyan Vision yet, dammit

I've only ever picked "Semi's".. but I may have to start broadening my horizons!..lol.. Since the 1st time I went picking I've been in love with it... I have my own "Mush Terminology" that has spread through my home town.. when I return now a days I hear kids I don't even know say things like "Sun-ripe" (Golden & weathered Semi's)...lol.. I didn't even have the internet or access to good information back then so I just named things myself... kids there now don't take advantage of the information available and still go by what they've heard.. I guess it's kind of cool because it insures some of my phrases live on lol!

Don't eat any of those. That's a mixed collection, but I don't see a single lib in there.
The fact that they are small and brown with a conical cap doesn't make them a liberty cap.

Looking at those piles I'd be willing to bet that I'd also find some Psathyrella and maybe Conocybe in there.

Yeah.. I dunno.. like I said I'm no expert... Libs are my passion but those really don't look like any to me!... again not that I'm a qualified ID expert but as best I can see, Kahuna is right.. it appears to be a very mixed collection of random "Browns"!...
