silly-noob first grow questions (pics)

Colonization question.
I inoculated my jars with the cambo strain from a vendor on sept 14th (5 weeks 2 days ago), and myc started growin a week later (21st). Today, I'd guess the majority of the jars are at like 60-80% done.

My question is this: How do jars typically colonize? I mean, it seemingly starts on the outside of the cake and spreads around the sides. Is it growing inward too from the start? Because while most jars have myc all the way around the outsides and are starting to shrink as a cake, 2 have growth almost completely surrounding the visible outside of the jar. Do these jars still have a lot of growing to do in the center now?

Another question; teks suggest to wait a week after "100%" colonization to birth cakes. Well do people consider 100% when all you see is myc when u look at the cake (like my 2 jars)? Or is 100& achieved after you wait a while after the point where all you see is myc growth on outside?

These 2 are the ones mentioned:

1/4 pint. That little dot is the only gap left and just closed in the past few days.


1/2 pint (by far the farthest along in the process). those spots are all thats left.. on the outside:

Id say wait 4 days... I had never waited past 4 days after it was fully white and always had success. :smile:

To help colonize the bottom of the jar, try turning the jars upside down as the myc likes to grow upwards from what I have read. Might go alittle faster, also try taking your tinfoil of to release some co2 if you haven't seen much growth lately you might have build up. The reason your cakes are shrinking is because the myc is now eating the sub that it has colonized.  Hope that helps,
