anybody from oakland?

hey guys,

i'm living in the south bay and went to school at berkeley. i've been thinking about moving to SF for a while, but lately a couple friends have been trying to convince me to move to oakland in the near-future, pointing out the obvious expense issue, and saying a lot of young people are moving out there and that the nightlife is booming. anybody from oakland? how's it like? are there nice areas, with basic amenities and pretty urbanism?

There are nice areas in N. Oakland like Piedmont/ Montclair / Temescal but the rent is pretty high.
The rent is way cheaper near DT/West Oakland but it's very dirty and dangerous, tons of nightlife though. :headbang:

lived in sunnyvale for a while, recently moved to campbell. you also from around here?

If you can avoid moving into a ghetto area do so but if you cant it's not always as bad as it's made out to be in the media. I live in Richmond but i spent allot of time in areas in Oakland.

And according to the Oakland PD that two part-er episode of "Gang Wars - Oakland" misinterpreted the number of gangsters localized in Oakland. Don't know if i believe the OPD, doubt the Discovery Channel decided to pull a random number out of there ass.

I knew a guy who did art in elementary schools in east Oakland.
He had them draw on the sidewalk in chalk.
They drew money signs and guns.
He drew a peace sign and asked if anyone knew what it meant,
Not one kid did.
He told them it was the sign for peace
and none knew what the word peace meant.
One kid said he knew: R.I.P Rest in Peace.

i got a little sidetracked, sorry -
downtown Oakland has some decent areas if your looking for an apartment they have some okay prices. Also Oaksterdam is right on Broadway in downtown Oakland. Major plus.:smile:
