    #1106357 -

i have 9 new san pedros, 3 i purchased rooted.. the other 5 are cuttings that i hope to root and im saving one for consumption. i bought pots and soil today i was wondering if i should water them right away.. or how long i should wait if needed. also, how much sun per day should i give them.. do they need to be gradually given more and more untill they get use to there new enviroment. sorry the pic isnt that great.. but im getting a new camera the first of the year, and hopfully they will have grown a bit, or at least still be living fine ;p thanks for any comments and/or suggestions.

all the ones that are unrooted, water them once and wait for the soil to become complete dry to water again; in due time they'll root. Give them the fullest most exposure to sunlight you can. Turn them often to expose all sides.

if the unrooted ones haven't calloused over, make sure you let them before trying to root.

Prohibition will work great injury to the cause of temperance. It is a species of intemperance within itself, for it goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man's appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes. A Prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

oh dear!!!!!!!!! I had assumed that you had calloussed cuttings or atleast knew to let them callous!!! My Bad, i should have included that in my original post just to be on the safe side.

There aren't as far as i know, if you see the flowers you will see an few anthers and one long carpel(pistil) in the middle of the flower. That pretty much confirms there are no separate sexes.

Any kind of light will be better than no light in general. But an indoor desk lamp is not very practical. You may perhaps want to go to home depot and buy some flouro plant lights or one of those flood-light type plant lights for it as well as leaving it in a sunny window sill for the winter.

put in a window for the winter, thats what i do... Also the best time to purchase cuttings is in the spring because the cactus goes dormant in the winter and takes a little longer to root. I hope the one for consumption is large enough, it needs to be about the leangth of your forearm, not including your hand.

There is a yes and no answer to this. If you get your cuttings from like a home depot type place where much of their plant area is unregulated by temp and environment then yes. If you take a cuttin gin the winter in like a indoor Cactus Terrarium, chances are it's dormancy period is all fucked up and it has a short one or something. So you could technically get a cutting and root it in the winter. Or if you're lucky the one taken was in an ideal condition and mailed to you without much shock of mailing, it could also root in the winter time of your area indoors with proper light.
