Abnormal liver tests, I need someones help
    #11235716 -

I recently had a comprehensive blood test and am somewhat alarmed with the results. The average range for the ALT liver enzymes are between 2-60 IU/L and AST is 10-50 IU/L. My ALT levels 320 and AST is 181. There is no doubt in my mind my extensive drug use has done lasting damage. I am curious to see if anyone else has had similar results and/or has an opinion on any probable causes. I have not abused alcohol by any means. I would be glad to respond to any further inquiries into my drug use history.

What's your drug of choice / which drug have you actually abused?

My biggest problem has been with IV Ketamine and heroin use.

"ALT rises dramatically in acute liver damage, such as viral hepatitis or paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose."

Don't share needles man, you're lucky you don't have the HIV.

And before you claim to have never shared needles, realize you can get Hep from sharing snorting equipment too.  Ever shared a rolled up dollar bill or a straw?

Well congrats on being Hep free...

This is more wiki stuff, but it says elevated ALT levels do not necessarily indicate a health problem.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alanine_transaminase#Elevated_levels
Significantly elevated levels of ALT often suggest the existence of other medical problems such as viral hepatitis, congestive heart failure, liver damage, biliary duct problems, infectious mononucleosis, or myopathy. For this reason, ALT is commonly used as a way of screening for liver problems. However, elevated levels of ALT do not automatically mean that medical problems exist. Fluctuation of ALT levels is normal over the course of the day, and ALT levels can also increase in response to strenuous physical exercise[1].

When elevated ALT levels are found in the blood, the possible underlying causes can be further narrowed down by measuring other enzymes. For example, elevated ALT levels due to liver-cell damage can be distinguished from biliary duct problems by measuring alkaline phosphatase. Also, myopathy-related ALT levels can be ruled out by measuring creatine kinase enzymes. Several drugs elevates the ALT levels. For example, Zileuton.

I got severe liver and kidney damage from Mercury poisoning. It goes away with time, I started supplementing with Liv.52 and it works. I also don't drink heavily or consume ridiculous amounts of drugs that would do such damage to the liver. It was all Mercury related.

I don't know how it would be in your situation, but I would imagine it's similar in that, besides giving it time, and trying Liv.52 there's nothing else you can do (except not drinking and/or consuming liver threatening drug/substances like APAP)
