So. Cal. "Fall is finally here" ID request
    #11233649 - 10/12/09 04:44 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Well fall is finally here and it has brought along a few new species. i was walking along a path and saw these in a nice spot of grass, they looked like cyans to me but i knew that wasnt the case. i suspect agrocybe? i just say that because the stem resembles an agrocybe species i see around here.

Habitat:
fairly nice park grass

Gills:
tightly packed, either the gills or the spores were dark, see the pictures.

Stem:
2 in, yellow/brown in color, very stiff.

Cap:
see pictures

Spore print color:
in progress

Bruising:
no bruising

Other information:

This is another species i saw today. didnt plan on putting an ID up for it but i might as well throw it out there for some suggestions or something.

The Cap was white and flakey, almost completely flat. The gills terassed down from the cap inward till they hit the ground. they were pink/ light red in color. There wasnt much of a stem that i could pull out. there seemed to be some infant ones around the same tree it was around.

thank you guys.

They do look like cyans.

They aren't though.

The gills look a little dark for Agrocybe, I would suspect Stropharia, Psathyrella or Leratiomyces.

The last group are Agaricus. Looking good actually. Smell them. If they don't have a nasty "inky" carbolic smell, but instead smell pleasant then you probably found Agaricus campestris or a closely related edible Agaricus.

UPDATE:

I went back to the spot today and number of agaricus pins (more like bulletin board tacks) has quadrupled thanks to this little storm were having. well yeah there was only one decent mature one, since all the others were either munched up or squashed. so i picked it, and a few smaller immature ones so i could examine a bit more. they dont smell like a yellow staining agaricus but not exactly pleasent, just smelt like plain mushroom to me (which is probably pleasent to most of you). One thing i noticed is that when i cut one of the immature agaricus in half with scissors, it started to bruise the same pink/ red color that the gills of the mature agaricus had. hope this info helps.

Im printing the mature one and ill post a pic in an hour or so.
p.s. i found more species today so im going to post another ID right now.
thanks

The red staining Agaricus with a pleasant smell is edible.

The cyan looking mushroom does look like a cyan but probably isn't, do you have a pic of the underside?

Hmmm so i went out and picked a bunch of those pink gilled agaricus and they all stained yellow where i touched them. i would softly run my finger around the bottom edge of the cap and it would turn yellow. now i remember hearing that yellow staining indicated a poisonous species. can someone help clear this up?
