I tried grafting an opuntia fruit to a trichocereus stock a few months ago, but the fruit never took, so I simply tossed it into the bushes and forgot about it. Today I was pulling weeds out of the garden and found that it had rooted and put out an offshoot.

This makes me want to experiment with some more fruit-grafts

Yeah, just for fun, lol. On the premature fruit the vascular bundle is the same as with the rest of the cactus, and can be grafted. The graft of course failed, but it was because of my irregular cutting and failure to connect enough of the vascular tissue. It connected enough to remain hydrated for a few months and then aborted.
