Laminar Flowhood Build.

Ok I have recieved numerous pm's on how did I build my flowhood, so here it is.

First off the materials needed are:
1. Squirrel cage fan (450 - 475cfm)(465cfm on online hydroponic store)
2. 24" X 12" X 5 7/8 HEPA filter (Fungi Perfecti)
3. Small box of 1 1/2" wood screws
4. 4' X 4' sheet of 3/4" plywood
5. 8' of 1" X 1" furring strip, cut to 2 12" strips and 2 24" strips
6. 8' of 1" edge trim, cut to 2 25 1/4" and 2 13 1/4" lengths
7. Tube of all purpose silicone caulk
8. 2 steel or brass handles

Ok to start out you are going to need to cut all of your sides to the deminsions needed to house the HEPA. These deminsions wouls be:

sides (2) 13 1/4" X 16"
bottom 24" X 16"
top 24" X 16" ( measure to center on one of the long sides and then
3" up from the edge and make your pattern for the
exhaust for the blower. Cut the hole for the blower
by measuring the INSIDE of the exhaust hole on the
blower and measuring it out on the wood at the
specified location ( 3" up from center) and use a
straight edge for this. Then use a large enough
drill bit so that you can get a jig saw into the hole
or use a dremel, but you may be all day with that.
There you have it, a hole in a piece of wood.)

Next you need to start making pilot holes in your wood with a drill bit a little smaller than the screws being used. This will help prevent the wood from splitting when the screws go in.

Once this is done, you can start assembly of the top and sides first . LEAVE THE SCREWS LOOSE!!! Do not tighten all the way at this point. You will see why in minutes.

Once you have this done you should be able to slide with the help of a peice of wood and a hammer if things are too tight. The back will mount flush against the other four sides of the box.

Now you will need to mount the furring strips on the inside of the box 6" from the opening and screw the in place. This is where the back of the HEPA filter will rest against so it does not slide all the way back into the box. Don't forget the pilot holes! Some trimming may be required as well.

Now, take your silicone and run a nice bead over ALL joints inside the box, thats right, everywhere there is a corner, as well as the inside of the furring strip OPPOSITE of the opening. This will prevent air from leaving the box once inside and keep the pressure inside the box constant.

Next you need to take your silicone and run a bead on the edge of the blower hole on the top of the box. After this, mount the blower by either supplied hardware, or the same wood screws as long as the heads are not too small for the holes on the blower mount.
Note: Some disassembly may be needed to mount the blower as in the
case with mine, but it is relatively simple.

After this is done it is time to put the filter in. Be very careful doing this. You do not want to dent the front facing of the filter. Have a hammer and small piece of wood around and handy. When putting the filter in, it will be tight. If needed tap the filter ON THE METAL EDGES ONLY with the wood to get it to set in place. The filter should set flush into the box.

Now take your edge trim and drill pilot holes for screws then fasten them to the box. NOTE: set the screws into the wood of the box and NOT THE FILTER! This wold ruin the whole project if this would happen at this point.

Finally, apply the handles of your choice centered on the sides of the box. The hardware supplied with the handles will hold the weight of the entire flowhood.

And there you have it, ready for the masters bidding, after a day or two to let the silicone dry of course.
