All Aboard!
    #11137897 -

Mankind has created its greatest creation ever, a space ship capable of light speed travel. And.. It is HUGE. The ground surface of it is as big as a mega city, a thousand square miles, stacked as a hundred floors of ten square miles each. There is housing, and nature, its essentially an ark of the Earth genome, theres humans and trees, plant life, fishes, you can even ride a horse there.

Ten thousand people are elected to hop aboard this interstellar ark, that's a population density of ten people per square mile.

The space craft will hit Warp and away you go, every week several solar systems will be visited on the search for inhabitable planets. Though not a scientist you get to do cool stuff like fly shuttles, spacewalk, and walk around on alien worlds. Drugs are legal aboard the vessel and in abundant supply.

To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before!

You are invited to hop aboard this vessel and you are allowed to pick 9 of your friends and loved ones to accompany you (and yes they all want to go with you  )

BUT!

Theres a downside.

The vessel's mission is to find an inhabitable planet, and to colonize it with the lifeforms of the Ark. This may take a few years, or many generations. The vessel will never return to earth in your lifetime. You leave planet Earth behind for good.

After you reach relativistic speeds, after 17 minutes of flight shiptime, a century has passed on earth, everyone you ever knew on earth would be dead. If you were to return to earth after a year, you wouldnt recognize it anymore as oceans of time will have passed on it. Mankind may not even exist anymore.

Once you get on board, the mission becomes your life, and the 10.000 people on board, and their offspring, will be all the people you'll ever know for the rest of your life.

It needs to be said they are bright, fun, pleasant people who can handle the mission and won't go postal on you

Any takers?

.

I love it.

I love every thought of it.

The very concept incorporates almost every dream I have for myself.

I just think there is a bit lack of details. Would there be a screening process beforehand to ensure the safety of the individuals? AKA no possible murderers, no possible rapists, etc.

Also, what if our mission fails. What if the last of humankind is wasting away in a ship in the middle of the Universe? That would be a waste of my life and the lives of my peers.

Another thing, what are the morals on the ship? Predominantly Christian, Puritan ethics? Are there laws?

The concept is awesome, but your explanation is very broad and general.

It is impossible for a space ship to travel at the speed of light, and there has been no proof of any planets outside of our solar system, so I think your scenario seems unrealistic.

It's a hypothetical situation.

ignored.

i would not go.  seems like a pretty shitty mission considering whats going to be happening on earth with cybernetics, nano technology, immortality research, and A.I.

Let me guess.
You don't read fiction.
Children who play games are probably stupid.
And using your imagination only leads to becoming a devil worshipper.

I'm in.  My friends and family total UNDER 9, so that's a selling point.

I've been wanting to do something like this too, get away from Earth life and do my own thing, as long as that takes..

When do we leave?
