Amerimuscaria?
    #11132182 -

Found this while walking along a busy road the other night. pretty sure it's an Amanita amerimuscaria var. formosa.  I don't eat these things but a friend of mine likes them and i want to make sure i'm not gonna kill him if i give it to him.  the mushroom is kinda dirty and my digi was dead so i had to use my camera phone.  if it can be posititvely ID'd my friend would appreciate it, if not he'll just have to wait until i find another one.

Habitat: growing in soil at woods edge along a busy roadway.  the woods contain maple, oak, eastern hemlock, and multiple types of pine trees

Gills: white to off-white cream, attached

Stem: four inches long, narrow at top widening towards basal bulb, with soft, cottony, veil remnants. feels hollow.

Cap: ~1-1/4 inches when picked, continued to open up until it dried out final diameter 1-3/4 inches. bright yellow with off-white patches/veil remnants (almost impossible to see in photo, sorry)

Spore print color: didn't do one. i'm positive it's in the Amanita genus though, should be white.

Bruising: none

The concentric rings at the base look right. The pictures don't show many other details, including color or warts so it will be a little bit more difficult to get a positive ID.

If you could take better pictures that would help. Try using the macro mode feature. Also if you can, take it outside under natural lighting and use a natural background, like wood or something.

i'm aware the pictures suck, but as i said my digi's battery was dead and my phone doesn't have macro. the mushroom has already dried so i don't think taking a photo now would really help show details.  the warts are off white and soft and sterted coming off when i attempted to clean the mushroom to take pictures (that's why i left it so dirty i was hoping the warts would still show) the cap was bright yellow with small radial lines along the margin. maybe that will help a little.

Well, the only thing that is clear are the concentric rings, which normally points to amermuscaria. Besides that I think your going to be on your own on the ID.

Try comparing to these http://www.shroomery.org/10224/Hunting-Fly-Agarics-in-North-America

I walked  out to the area i had seen the mushrooms earlier this afternoon to find two white tail deer devouring the patch. i was only able to pick one immature specimen. after reading the Fly-Agaric hunting page i'm 100% sure the first one i posted is A. amerimuscaria var. guessowii.  the one i picked tonight is a little lighter in cap color but the warts and stipe appear to be the same color and it looks to have the same concentric rings though not as many and not quite as shaggy looking.  Anyone got a second oppinion? it was already dark so the pics were shot inside under a daylight spectrum fluorescent with exposure and white balance adjusted to best show the mushrooms true colors. hope these are a little easier to ID.

If you live near the oceanfront it's a good possibility.
