So is there anything in particular that I need to know about this specific version of Amanita muscaria? Is it even worth eating for a trip?

Also, thank you for helping ID.

Yes, you have a lot to learn about this variety!!!  Start here:  http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+muscaria+var.+persicina

The answer to that question is extremely subjective.  You might like it.  You might hate it.  You might throw up everywhere and like it anyway (that is what happened last week to my friend).

Hahaha thank you so much for this helpful information. And I'll be sure to have future input on the subjective nature of Amanita Muscaria.

Ignore the color and look at the distribution of veil material on the caps  var. persicina has those wispier, light tan-ish smears instead of true raised-up warts. Persicina is also less likely to have a ring on the stem and the concentric rings at the stem base when fully mature (they fall/rub off).

I appreciate the feedback. They are showing up red in this photo because my friends desk lamp is essentially right Ontop of them. They are definitely more yellow/orange than red and that's y I wanted an ID prior to consumption because I am use to the red a-typical Anamita Muscaria but I learned that particular type grows only in Europe? If I'm not mistaken of course

Thanks again everyone for the collective input and thanks Allen for a proper ID. Consumption shall begin in roughly 20min. Cheers. (:

--The usually red Amanita muscaria (subspecies muscaria) grows in Europe and Asia, as well as Alaska. This is the classic fly agaric consumed by Siberian nomadic tribes during shamanic rituals.

--The usually red Amanita muscaria var. flavivolvata grows from southern Alaska down into the desert southwestern U.S. and across the gulf coast states. In the future this will be renamed Amanita amerimuscaria.

--The usually peach-colored Amanita muscaria var. persicina seems to favor the east coast, and especially the southeastern United States. It has been found up the east coast even into Canada. It will become it's own species at some point in the future; likely under the name Amanita persicina or something similar.

--The usually yellow Amanita muscaria var. guessowii is probably just a yellow form of the red Amanita flavivolvata and not a true variation of the species. It is found from Canada down into the southeastern states, and as far west as the Great Plains. In the future this will likely be considered the yellow form of Amanita amerimuscaria.

In the end, cap color in these taxa has been shown to be a genetic polymorphism. This makes using cap color alone to ID a find inaccurate. The peach colored var. persicina is different in enough other ways from the others listed above to merit gaining species status. All of these variants and species contain the same toxins as the classic fly agaric, but the concentrations of those chemicals in each individual mushroom varies greatly. That's one reason why when some people consume them barely anything happens besides mild stomach upset, yet others hold converse with the gods. Whew. Glad I finally typed all of that out at once in one post!

In rare cases red grow in the north east too
But as you said it.could just.be phenotypic and they are vary much the same.

Ill agree about the perisina there warts are different for sure but im starting to think there os a difference betweenbetween east and western us ones.

Effects wise area to area year to year season to season vary drastically sometimes to the point they almost feel.nothing alike
